Watch any of those alumni games. The guys can still pass really really well. Some can even stickhandle like they used to.

But the feet are cement, the shot isn't as powerful... those break down over time for sure. And I can't imagine how they feel the next day after the game.

- Tomahawk

This is because they are playing against other alumni. Put them out there against pros in their prime and all of the sudden the passes don't look so crisp....

I can't believe this conversation is happening but also this is the most hockey buzz conversation ever so it was bound to happen at some point

Aren't there some guys in the alumni game who are younger than Chara?

It's funny that has to be explained
It would be easier to convince flat earthers that the world is round.

Let Hayes walk, and sign Pavelksi to 3 years at $8m AAV.

Giroux-Couturier-Voracek
Konency-Patrick-Pavelski
JVR-Laughton-Lindblom
Raffl-Vorobyev-Hartman
NAK

Sprinkle in Frost and Farabee as needed.

- Feanor

Because Konecny is a RW and Lindblom is a LW, I’ll switch those two.

So passing and stick handling are skills but skating and shooting are not? I was a swimmer almost my whole life and I can still get in the water and have decent form but my speed is long gone. Am I still skilled? These guys playing in alumni games were the best of the best. Sure they can still do some skilled stuff but to say they haven't diminished is absurd. Your skills diminish as you age it's not even really an argument
- bulet13

I'm not really sure what we're talking about anymore.

I think some of us are taking 'skill' to mean puck skill. While others are taking it to mean more or less everything?

Skating, shot velocity, strength all decline. No question.

Passing, puck handling and shot precision really don't, at least within the time-frame of the typical NHL career.

Once you're like 50-60, everything goes into the toilet.

Ek reporting possible Provorov hold out.

We really do have one of the great GM’s I the league. Multitasking two contract Negotiations at once. One of who said wouldn’t play in the world’s unless a deal was done and the other guy he traded for, clearly has another distinction in mind.

Seravelli just today said that negotiations with Hayes are going well and moving in the right direction
No other RFA has been signed league wide so why is Provy suddenly the holdout candidate? And why are you taking Eks rumors seriously??

I’m not judging. I’ve never met you and have no reason to doubt you.

I will say though, if you’ve made it to the AHL, in the grand scheme of things you’ve made it on some level. Someone is paying you to play hockey.

Yea but is it worth it? At 62k a year its only 10k i nake sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day. Thetes do much work and cost to being a pro player not to mention the fact thst once you hit 40, you are done. What are you going to do then. Education can be useful if you got it but its hard to get a job with no actual field exp.

Frank Sev. Now saying it appears that Hayes is closer to signing with Flyers. No guarantee but seems like Flyers made a good pitch/offer.

I say no more Hayes speculation until he signs... anywhere...

Skills don’t necessarily dwindle with age. As a Middle aged man my hockey skills haven’t slipped a bit.
They sucked then and they suck now. I’ve completed have stayed on the same plane of suckiness for decades.
I never got to the AHL level of suck so I have no idea if I could compete there if given a shot.
I can serve a mean bag of popcorn with speed dexterity and agility so I might have had a shot.

I mean dude what were you expecting. You come to a hockey board, say you could have been in the AHL if you worked harder, and that you have proof because you played against a current NHL player

Did you not think you weren't gonna get made fun of for that?

You're the one who felt the need to bring it up about yourself, so don't get mad when people question it and you have nothing to back it up more than "I have a really good shot and win faceoffs."

(frank), I had a guy mock me because I couldn't prove that I played semi-pro roller hockey and you don't get why people are doubting your AHL skill level claims?
