Trade Brown, Clifford, Roy & 22nd overall pick to Toronto for Nylander, Marleau, and either a prospect (maybe Brooks) or a 3rd round pick.
- JBP1802

I would do this. Plus Brown would be very successful in the Toronto system.

I really like the idea of getting Marleau and having his high contract for one season if it means TOR sends a sweetener with it - which is the rumor.

Even though Marleau would be going against the the idea of getting younger and faster, I think a year of his veteran leadership and helping the young guys learn McLellan’s system would be worth it, and again, you’d hopefully get that prospect out of it, too.

If anything switch Brown with Carter and get Clifford with Lewis or Brodzinski. That would be pretty damn good especially if the rumors are true about Kadri being shopped. Carter could step in at the 2nd center, Roy is a decent d prospect and that 22nd overall would be a nice extra to help them with losing Nylander.

I don't think Carter would replace either Matthew's or Tavares on the top 2 lines.

Matt, congrats on becoming the first Kings blogger who doesn't have to listen to me complain about Muzzin. In fact, you may not have to listen to me complain much at all, since I'm not sure what to complain about now. I feel lost. Maybe I should become a Leafs fan.

Would TOR do Marleau for Kovy straight up? Similar annual cap hit but Kovy has one extra year. May not be so bad as he is almost 4 years younger than Marleau.

I don't know, man. Kind of an interesting thought, but I feel LA kind of loses out with no sweetener involved and the fact that I think Kovy has more left in the tank than Marleau.

But, since Marleau has less contract (and close to hanging them up), maybe it would benefit the Kings in terms of cap, etc., moving forward? I'm not sure.

Did you guys see EK's latest rumor that there might be something to PITT moving Letang to LA?

You wouldn't do Doughty for Malkin? I think it's a pretty even trade as we get a top 5 forward in the league and they get a top 5 arguably a Top 3 dman in the league.

I heard a whispering about it from a friend who's a pretty well regarded NHL reporter. I mean I never thought in a million years I would trade Doughty but to get Malkin I'd assume that's the only player on our roster that could get him straight up? I assume at this point Malkin is sick of playing in #87's shadow and wants to at some point be the guy and he and Kopitar would make a dope 1-2 combo as the kids say.

Not sure what if anything we could get for Quick or Carter but me personally I'm fine with the 2 young kids in goal. Goaltender market after Bobrovsky is soft so the losers in that sweepstakes might view Quick has a nice consolation prize.

Interesting stuff. Looking at the numbers:

Malkin(32): $9.5 M until 2021-22
Doughty(29): $11 M until 2026-27

What are the benefits?

He's older and has some injury issues, but he's cheaper and gets you out of cap trouble far sooner. Plus, he brings the nasty offense that LA needs.

Pens just moved Maatta to Chicago for Kahun. I know Maatta is not on the same level as Doughty, but now they have a hole on the blueline. Oddly enough, EK just posted that PITT might trade Letang to LA...so that would be another hole for them to fill - maybe by DD if he's part of that deal?

Losing Doughty is tough because he's a top defensman, but if you're committed to the rebuild, let's do it - I would imagine there'd have to be something coming with Malkin, right? Maybe there's some monsters deal going on between LA and PITT. Haha.

It's interesting becuase Pittsburgh's window is still very much open, I'm not sure why they'd want to move Malkin. But gaining DD helps them.

Hagelin extended by Caps - 4 years, $11M

Always liked his speed/game. Wish he would have worked out as a King, or circumstances were a bit different.

I personally wouldn't want Letang as he's pretty injury prone at this point. It's insane to me to even think of moving DD but to get the offensive help they need short and long term you have to give to get. He's in his prime now and I could see Pittsburgh or maybe even Toronto getting in on it if one of their big contracts come back this way. I think the Kings need to do something drastic to change the dressing room and semi losing culture they now have. They had a good run with this group and like Axl Rose sang in November Rain "nothing lasts forever!"

Doughty? Sorry, Dave Nonis left town some time ago. I wish somebody could explain how Drew could possibly help a contending team. Maybe like 5 years ago.

I think if Malkin and Letang are going one way then Doughty and Kopitar are going the other but Pittsburgh adds to the deal. They might even take Quick.

He'd still be Toronto's best dman by a large margin, yes even better than Rielly.

November Rain is one of my favorite G n' R songs. Funny enough, there's a Guns N' Roses documentary on tonight. Haha.

It'll be interesting to see if a splash is made this week or during the frenzy.

Yeah, somewhat unimaginable. It would be a jumpstart to a rebuild for the Kings once they auctioned off those players. They'd have to get Malkin to void his NMC, or at least modify it to a limited NTC if that's possible.

I mean they could try it for a year or two and if it doesn't work blow it up.

Yea, but it’s always fun to speculate/make mock trades

I mean...I feel like the Kings could be a few tweaks away from being competitive, or not competitive at all. Id like to see them go young and do a real rebuild.

Liking what Campbell and Petersen bring in net.

I mean they were HORRIBLE this year but yet like you say I don't think they are far off if certain things go their way. Toffoli either gets traded or has a monster year since it's his last year and I think Kopitar bounces back the same way he bounced down this year. I'll assume Carter bounces back a little bit as I just don't see him getting traded and even if we did trade him at this point what does he bring back? I do think Quick could bring a semi decent return on a team that's desperate for goaltending and I think the teams that lose out on Bobrovsky will seriously look at him.

Deal Kopitar and Doughty. Only way to truly rebuild. Unload who you can. If your going to stink it may as well be with young guys
