I wonder if Fletcher is stocking up on D so potentially minimize the impact of the Seattle expansion draft somehow.

Dunno.

- Mashadar

i'm leaning towards not liking fletcher.

i don't want hayes and i feel like he wasted a draft pick on either overpaying for him or just losing the pick when hayes signs elsewhere.

i just realized braun is like 32 or something and that was 2 picks.

and i have a bad feeling fletcher is about to trade one of the Dmen that i'm not ready to move on from yet.

We will see, but I still think he is trying to get the most out of what he has before being forced to give up talent for nothing (or making a forced bad trade) in the expansion draft. Now whether this is a good idea or not, and if he is going about it the right way, I dunno.

As a side note, not sure I would want Fletcher as my GM either.

i feel like i dutifully waited through the hextallian stockpiling years for nothing now because fletcher is going to trade all the picks and young players away.

A first round pick for a rental is far from nothing.

Winnipeg basically just got back the first they gave to the Rags in order to rent Kevin Hayes for a few months. They also gave Brendan Lemieux in that same deal.

The Rangers did very well all things considered.

Well at least they got it back instead of watching their asset walk for nothing? A few teams won't have a first round pick at all this year.

I'm certainly not arguing this fact ... the Jets were in a real bad spot.
Cap management must be hell for a GM.

All I'm saying is that all things considered, the Rangers received Trouba and Lemieux in exchange of Neal Pionk. Sure, Trouba isn't signed yet but they ended up the best asset in the end.

I see your point but I think a lot of people assume Trouba will sign with a rebuilding team.

If the Rangers are smart, they will trade him at the deadline if they can't sign him.

Agreed ... but I think they will make room for him ... they traded McDonagh a while back so they need help on the blue line.

meh, you can't really see things like that imo. you can't merge these 2 transactions into 1.
the first deal, WPG was a favorite to win the cup, they paid a 1st to acquire a C for a cup run. of course NYR did well on that trade. if WPG wins the cup (or sign Hayes) we would not say the same thing today.
as for the 2nd trade, WPG got ride of a problem. they got a 1st and a decent dman for an unsigned rfa (who went on strike last year). happens to be NYR who traded with them but could have been any other team. decent return imo. NYR better sign him.
