Only 60 games last year, was he hurt? - scottak
The question is more when isn't he hurt. |

He’s had some injuries and also a scare with cancer that kept him out some time but if the defense was as is going into the season which I’m pretty sure it won’t but if it did, I think a second line of Maatta and Gus would be a pretty solid 2nd pairing.....maatta is pretty damn solid in his own end and they would give the hawks almost a perfect balance - rwilliams88
He's inconsistent as hell in his own zone. He is pretty much what they already had on cheaper deals. Not sure about his PK TOI or performance and that could be more of what this move is about. |

Most likely. No faith in the upper management anymore in this organization. |

They are not. Its a small sample size for the one on the right. Think it was 15 games. The one on the left is for 54 games. |

At least from those stats he doesn’t appear be allergic to blocking pucks. |

I would have pushed for a better defenseman. - Ogilthorpe2
I would have been patient and see if Joki doesn't solve some of the top 4 needs. On a one year deal? Sure, take a flyer. Even two I could see it. Him having 3 years left kinda makes me meh on the trade. |

Does the 15 games tracked indicate these numbers are for only 15 of his 60 games played? Is so, they’re flawed. |

True. But I want my d-men blocking less shots. Not more. If you get where I am going here.

Modified NTC beginning in 20-21. List of 8 teams he won’t go to. - scottak
Sometimes trades negate NTCs - it always depends on how the NTC was stipulated. |

I could have been wrong. Players with NMC are not draft eligible unless they waive. Don't know about the partial NTC. I assume if he doesn't want to go to Seattle and puts them on his no trade list, he can't be exposed. - boilermaker100 Players with NTC are draft eligible - only those with full NMC must be protected unless the player waives.
Maatta does not need to be protected if he is still here by the time the expansion draft rolls around.

Why I mentioned it. They are indicative of how much he struggled last season, tho.
The numbers themselves aren't flawed. The sample size for sure isn't big enough to draw any concrete conclusions but they aren't good. |

Trade alert:
Pittsburgh trades Olli Maatta to Chicago for Kahun and a 5th round pick. - walleyeb1

Bowman shouldn't of made a deal just to make a deal. |

Was about to say this.
Though to note, unless a team has a dedicated tracker (the Pens don't), the games are typically somewhat random so as to not catch a player during an up or down period. 20 games is where players stabilize so it's not that far off. Just enough to start an opinion but not enough to make a definitive assessment. |

Hello, LBR. As you may know, this board believes they should get Hedman for Kahun. Nothing less. |

Ah boy....This is what we get when everyone snowballs on everyone that doesn’t watch anything other than the blackhawks and some playoff hockey maybe....mattaa is maybe a little slow footed but he’s for sure better responsibly in his own end than most of what we have now...I wouldn’t advocate putting him with seabrook but with gus or maybe even joker, there’s something there....he’s a top 4 right now on the hawks, and all you had to give up was a 5th and Kahun (I like Kahun but he’s replaceable) maatta makes your defense better right now....he makes a bigger impact to the team than Kahun does |

I guess we'll see, but imho we have plenty of 5th and 6th dmen, Kahun isn't a top 6 player but he was a solid role player for this team. |

I do not mind the 3 years. It is the $4M+ part of his deal that I do not. Also if it means that Murphy gets moved, our defence just got softer than it already was.
Oh well, looks like we probably got ourselves a new whipping boy for next season. |
