Bad trade - SimpleJack
Yep. Could have had Zaitsev at a fraction more money. And given up less to acquire him. I'd rate both about the same defensively. |

This defence can't have Maatta, Murphy and Seabs on the back end. I may be over reacting here but why give up a speedy rookie who had 37 points . I could see if we we bring in someone who played a tough game or brought some of fence to the back end but I don't think Matta brings neither.
With so many teams up against the cap and the Hawks for once having space Bowman let's Pittsburgh crawl out from it and they add a good young player. |

Totally disagree.....right now he comes in as the 2nd best defensive defenseman we have - rwilliams88
To be honest I really don’t know that much about him. Seems like Bowman is sticking to his strategy of first round picks that haven’t quite worked out the way the drafting team thought they would!l though! |

You won’t get that good of a return for Zaitsev |

He’s had some injuries and also a scare with cancer that kept him out some time but if the defense was as is going into the season which I’m pretty sure it won’t but if it did, I think a second line of Maatta and Gus would be a pretty solid 2nd pairing.....maatta is pretty damn solid in his own end and they would give the hawks almost a perfect balance |

Looks like bowman found a partner for joker.. countryman
High draft pick
Still young for a dman.. he's barely hitting his prime. I liked kahuna, but not too big of a hit.
We def need more forwards and I doubt think kubalik and wedin will be enough. Draft byrum, use depth to get a solid forward. |

I guess we need to see how the rest of the offseason plays out but he would meet the Seattle draft requirement if he doesn’t pan out. |

Well, I don't know about this move but time will tell. Maybe the feeling is he will be paired with fellow Finn Joki to continue to ease his transistion to the NHL.
Note that Maatta has been injury prone in his career.
2013-14 - 78 games played
2014-2015 - 20 games played. Cancerous tumor removed from his thyroid and a shoulder injury
2015-16 - 67 games played. Missed 3-4 weeks with an upper body injury
2016-17 - 55 games played. Missed 6 weeks due to broken hand
2017-18 - 82 games played
2018-19 - 60 games played. Missed past couple of months of season due to an upper body injury |

I was going to suggest last night that Kahun could be a trade chip, looks to me like the blueline is a little crowded now. Gotta be another trade coming. |

Maatta has a modified NTC that kicks in for 20/21 and 21/22 so he will have to be protected for the expansion draft unless he waives.

Stupid. Trade.
Maatta has had one shoulder repaired twice and his hand once. Should be a formidable physical force no?
Inconsistent. Every other year a worthless season. And three more years at $4MM per, with NTC on the last two.....
Plus they give away Kahun to boot - one of the Hawks’ best bottom six guys.
SB = Jim Hendry. No money to work with and hail mary passes on wannabes and has beens hoping for lightning in a bottle.
Not a good start. |

I count 9 bodies on the blue line now.
Keith
Seabrook
Murphy
Maatta
Joki
Gus
Koekkoek - not waiver exempt
Dahlstrom - not waiver exempt
Forsling (still RFA) - not waiver exempt

If hawks do select bryam he won't be playing this year next year for sure. |

Except that he’s slow as molasses, and the Gus won’t be here more than another year. |

It’s an 8 team no trade list he has to submit.
Question, if he doesn’t list Seattle would he be draft eligible? |

Agreed. Seabrook maybe faster than him and pissed away a little over 3 mildo in cap space that we haven’t had the luxury of in god knows when for some b*** job hack that can’t stay healthy. If blowman thinks this is a top four defenseman he should have his head examined and FIRED!!
here we go and it’s only June.... |

For the record... my fake trade was:
PIT trades Olli Maatta to CHI for Carl Dahlstrom and 2019 4th round pick – I've heard on numerous occasions that there wasn't a lot of Maatta appetite around the NHL. A deal like this might get it done. The Hawks might have to add another prospect to the mix. The Pens need cap space and draft picks. This achieves both. - Tyler Cameron
I would have pushed for Perlini and one of our 4th rnd picks. |

I could have been wrong. Players with NMC are not draft eligible unless they waive. Don't know about the partial NTC. I assume if he doesn't want to go to Seattle and puts them on his no trade list, he can't be exposed.
