I just don't know why a lot of us here want to trade Saad. If you trade him then who do the Hawks have to fill that void. Saad's contract for the next 2 years is not bad compared to some of the other players around the league. The only way Saad is traded is for someone who would be an upgrade in that forward position. Trading Saad for Faulk is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Besides Stan will not trade Saad because that would be an admission of fault for trading Panarin. - BGKarras
Frankly I don't think Stan is that precious that he wouldn't admit it - obviously the results bear out that it was a mistake, plus now there is additional money so that the entire 'cost certainty' angle doesn't apply -it did apply prior to dealing Hossa's contract.
The replacement doesn't have to come in a trade. And the actual replacement might already be on the team -however that replacement for the replacement may not be.
Businessmen, which GMs generally are - Stan, certainly is -don't worry too much about 'past mistakes' -it is all about right now.

What is Boquvists value is in terms trading for pick right now? If we wanted Byram. - gifman
If the Hawks draft Byram, I can see one of the 4 horsemen (Boqvist, Beuadin, Joki, Mitchell) being traded. I have posted this before, but I would like to see Beaudin traded to Montreal for one of their young center prospects like Suziki or Poehling.
Think about the synergies.
1. Bowman and Bergevin have a history of trading with each other.
2. Montreal wants young defensemen which the Hawks have.
3. Montreal coveted Beaudin , a young French Canadian at last year's draft.
4. Montreal has several young centers on their team or in their system. In addition to Poehling and Suziki, they have Domi, Kotkoneimi, Dannault plus a few other 2018 draft choices in the juniors.
If the Hawks can swing this deal, its a win-win. They can obtain the best D in this year's draft and obtain a quality young center in place of missing out on Turcotte/Cozens/Dach. |

Easy decision. Keep Saad. - Ogilthorpe2
Agree I would pursue murry from Columbus might not cost as much AA ++. Saad imo is player you keep and big body in the playoffs will pay off. |

By now you've read enough already about whom vets choosen #3
Among various possible trade scenarios i suggest one stands out. It is difficult to ascertain whether this plays out and if Chicago gets involved.
The idea is hatched all due to whether Byram is so enticing to another team so they move up to snag him. Or if there is a surprise a d one of the top two choices falls back.
The kicker could well be maybe it is worth doing if we can draft one of Cozens or Turcotte at #4 or #5. Could we somehow extract an nhl dman or another #1 out of draft manuevering? Or do we badly want to get our guy at #3? |

Maatta was jot my first choice however, the price was not that steep to get him if he can play top 4 minutes.
Kahun is a tough loss as he has somennice potential and competes hard every shift... but he's not irreplaceable.
I heard a lot about Maatta over the last couple of years. Sounded like there wasnt much of a market for him.
The Hawks must see something they like in the 24 year old Finn as he's signed for another 3 years at just over 4M. |

For what it’s worth, a look back Wiz had him at #11
The concussion he suffered early in the World Junior Tournament has certainly placed a cloud around his slotting. After acting as the leader of the Finn Junior team in the August Ivan Hlnka Tourney, he made his way across the pond to the OHL's London Knights. He is an all-around defenseman that brings toughness and physicality in the defensive zone but rarely misses a chance in transition to rush up ice. One of the younger players in the draft, he is a powerful skater who makes the right decisions wherever he is and no matter how pressured he might be. His biggest strength is the consistency of his play, game in and game out. Displays good speed, vision, and stamina and plays hard no matter how much time is on the clock. He passes the puck with excellent accuracy, and has a heavy point shot. He battles and engages the opposition whenever he can, and is well versed at keeping the puck in the attack zone. Heavy Point shot. Although he is average in his first two steps, and less offensive-minded than many of the other D-men in this draft. He may get overlooked early, but he looks to be a fine long term prospect with significant upside, and showed as much in the Under-18 World Tourney in May.

For the record... my fake trade was:
PIT trades Olli Maatta to CHI for Carl Dahlstrom and 2019 4th round pick – I've heard on numerous occasions that there wasn't a lot of Maatta appetite around the NHL. A deal like this might get it done. The Hawks might have to add another prospect to the mix. The Pens need cap space and draft picks. This achieves both. |

Murphy to Toronto kapiean or Johnson or AA and Murphy for something bigger or do the hawks pursue murry from Columbus? I keep murphy but depends on the return I guess. |

They are in the mix.
Bowman dealt from an area of depth. There are a lot of forwards in the mix. They could afford to move one. |
