Possibly, if the Hawks re-sign Faulk. With only one year left on Faulk's deal I'm not sure if it's worth it. - DarthKane

Maybe Bowman looks at it as getting off Saads contract because he still has two years left. If Saad is moved, his money comes off, plus Crawford is entering the final year of his current contract. That opens up 12M next summer if they landed Faulk and he didnt extend/ resign.
My other question/ concern is if they made a deal like this, who on their blue line is gonna go because it is getting very crowded back there. They need defensive help badly, but somebody will also have to be moved. |

They don’t open up $12MM - they would have to have replacements.
Even on ELCs, the replacements would cost ~2MM - and I don’t think we’d be happy with ELC replacements, especially for Saad. |

I am not saying I want to move Saad. I am just saying maybe Bowman is looking to get off his contract. |

Also, I had Calvin de Haan on my fake trade list.
What might a deal look like? This is what I had:
--
CAR trades Calvin De Haan and Saku Maenalanen to CHI for Brandon Saad – If I can keep Saad, I will, but if an opportunity comes up to add an effective stay-at-home D in De Haan and an up-and-coming Finnish power forward in Maenalanen, I believe the Hawks would think about it. It's more likely that TVR, Faulk or Hamilton are moved out for forward help but wanted to add De Haan on here as he fits what the Hawks need. - Tyler Cameron
Knowing Stan.......oh by all means it'll be TVR......and if he trades Kahun for him I'll lose it !!

They are likely not going to contend for a cup with Saad and Crawford, so freeing up $12M over the next two years goes a long way toward creating a better roster. |

Found an interesting site that uses statistics to compare one player with another. For example, if Saad is traded, who bests fits his statistical profile and with whom he can be replaced. The data is a year old.
It compares forwards with other forwards of comparable offensive and defensive skills and defensemen with other defensemen.
Go to this site:
https://www.qsao-queens.c...ng-comparable-nhl-players
Then after the 1st paragraph of the explanation, click on the link. Then select the player's name. Five comparable offensive players and five comparable defensive players are then listed. |

Hypothetical trade for discussion sake:
Hawks trade 3rd overall pick to Winnipeg for truoba and ehlers and 3rd or some kind of combination like that from another team. - Scott1977
No Way.....you do not trade the #3 pick unless you're getting a young all-star back in return. Just look at all the #3's that are HOF'S.
Plus.....is Trouba really that good and what will he cost on his next contract, and he's right handed. Too many red flags in my eyes.
Take BB #3, trade for Eakin and Tanev, and a stay at home dman at minimum.

I just don't know why a lot of us here want to trade Saad. If you trade him then who do the Hawks have to fill that void. Saad's contract for the next 2 years is not bad compared to some of the other players around the league. The only way Saad is traded is for someone who would be an upgrade in that forward position. Trading Saad for Faulk is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Besides Stan will not trade Saad because that would be an admission of fault for trading Panarin. |

Following up on this Saad's offensive comparables are Craig Smith, Brayden Point, Patrick Maroon, Evander Jane and Boone Jenner. His defensive comarables are Ryan Johansen, Tyler Seguin, Bo Horvat, Derek Stepan and Elias Lindholm.
Don't know how valid this info really is.

I hear you. I think Saad is discussed a lot as a trade candidate because he does not have a NTC. Just like Anisimov is discussed a lot as being trade fodder. Who else can return a top 4 D.? I don't think the likes of Sikura, Perlini, Hayden, Kampf, Highmore, Forsling etc. will get it done.
Also, as you pointed out Saad contract for 2 more years could be attractive to other teams. If traded for a defenseman, I would think Stan has a separate move in place, trade of free agent, to replace Saad.

I think the low contract players that you mentioned would be very attractive to a cap-strapped team. A reverse of what we've seen with past trade Chicago has had to make. Look at the Niskanen deal. You can get a legit top 2 or 4 for what would be considered trash. |

Also think Stan may try to sell Dzingel as a Saad replacement. not saying that is accurate, but a gut feeling.

I would hope so. I understand that Saad and Anisimov would be the obvious choices because they are easier to trade if another team wanted them. Saad's contract is attractive I agree but why do any other teams a favor by giving them a cost controlled young player who's not that bad. I say keep him and fix the Defense and possibly add a forward to the team. |

Good point. I and others have advocated for a long term to obtain Miller or McNabb from Vegas to help their cap situation. A cheap Sikura type prospect could be the return.

Regarding Saad's 2 years left on his contract... Bowman has a history of trading a player in return for players with longer term. He would then know his cap situation farther into the future.
Examples of past trades with contract length at time of trade:
Panarin (2 Years) for Saad (4 years)
Hjalmarsson (2 years) for Murphy (5 years)
Schmaltz(1 year) for Strome (2 year)
Now is it Saad's turn again? His 2 years along with something else for DeHaan's 3 years or Pesce's 5 years?

I’d prefer the Hawks dealt from an area of strength/depth to address their needs - which at the moment is defensive prospects and draft picks. Saad is a LW power forward that can play up and down the lines. Who else on the team plays that role? Filling one hole and creating another isn’t really a solution - more like shifting a problem to another area. |

Fair point it was just for fun and discussion sake. In no way I think the hawks should trade that pick. Turcotte or Cozens wiz who would you pick and why? I would be good with either one those are my two choices. - Scott1977
I know I am not taking
Caufield or even Zegras because we have a lot of similar prospects and in my bumble they are not as highly graded as many of the others.
I even bet, if he hadn't been injured, Peyton Krebs could have slipped between or in front off these two kids based on his high end EVERYTHING.
that is no to ay that all THREE in five years are really fine NHL players gifted in the tools we already see.
This is a lot about seeing the future NHL player that will start the journey to
fill out physically
iron out the kinks the training staff see and KNOW can be remediated, and adds to the playerrs power, flexibility and enables his skill set, vision, already present "junior league gifts" to rocket him into eventual impact status.
To answer IF the Hawks decided that the best option is BIG centre forward (and their publicly vocal comparison of Coffey and Byram don't cause the teams above them to rethink and select BB), since they have wanted a dominant big man for awhile. The Nashville traded didn't get them one, and Strome IS the right directions, but maybe they feel a few more big skilled bodies ARE a priority....
maybe they simply take Dach.
These boards resonate about net front presence and he has that and a whole bunch more.
I still see no kinks in Dylan Cozens mentioned in the Cozen Dach debate nor can I get over the things only I seem to see concerning Turcotte.
I love everything SAID by teammates coaches scouts about Alex Turcotte in how he is a tone setter jackknife...and I keep going back over tape...and nothing leads me top believe he won't be a pro --- it is rare YOU can fanboy out at draft time except when you GUESS a guy CAN be this or that.
I think all the forwards are close to guaranteed NHL players...and when you choose at #12 or later even in a good draft class, your team
waits one the prospect to develop physically
develop towards NHL status,
takes time to adjust to NHLers playing status (only after they get their feet wet and positively impact the club's roster TO get minutes)
and the beauty (NOT a CURSE of three that these paper newspaper rookies are trying to surmise) of being at that three slot TO get an advanced specium, who there is less learning adjusting to finally get to the nHL.
I honestly will be happy with any of them.
BTW I reordered my Draft board once again on DraftSite to keep the hits (and email complaints to me) coming! |

As far as trading Saad or young assets to firm up the defense, I am gonna take the view this way:
Will the Chicago Blackhawks be back in the THICK (a couple Cup round wins) that warrant keeping ______________ around as they need _________ to make that playoff run happen, or are we ready to concede that _________ probably won't be as good or as able when we finally get to that playoff level...?
I understand that business says GET BETTER at the D for the fans, to helpthe team's gradual improvement CONTINUE positively, but just staying - do we want to lock in and keep the old band together IF we feel certain the NEW assets (via drat and trade and farm) are the names will fill the blanks in? |

Also Saad for Faulk seems like the most obvious thing in the world, to me. - BINGO!
Saad is better defensively than Faulk is so that wouldn't actually help the Hawks' defensive issues. |

Why are they unlikely to contend for a cup with Saad and Crawford? The Hawks don't even have replacements for them and cap space is just nothing until it's filled. The UFA market is always crap, most teams improve via development of their own players with only minimal key trades, so just removing players for the sake of removing them isn't a great strategy. |

To be clear I am not advocating a Saad trade. He is not expendable as you say UNLESS a replacement is obtained somehow else. Just explaining some reasons why he could be traded.
1) LW power forward - check
2) reasonable contract - check
3) no NTC - check
4) 2 year term if return is someone with longer term - possible.
Yes, Hawks have a deep defensive prospect pool and may get deeper if Hawks select Byram. I would then think someone is expendable. But will players with only Junior (Beaudin, Boqvist) or NCAA (Mitchell) experience playing against 17-19 year olds return a quality veteran defenseman? Not by themselves. IMO they also would be an overpay for a player that has to be moved from a cash strapped team. Don't do them any favors.

If Bowman tried that, he'd be really (frank)ing wrong. I like Dzingel as a player but he doesn't drive possession, he's only average defensively 5v5, and he's not a PK player - all things Saad does that would need to be replaced. |
