When I think of Blowman, I think of even the losers get lucky sometimes. - I Am The Breadman
Probably in hockey annals one day fans will see neither Bowman or Tallon messed up with the very early #1. Tallon blew a few #7 - #11 picks though. So yes i believe that Boqvist will turn out just fine.

RF big fella, it was a joke. I've never had a problem with either guy. I'm pretty optimistic with everything hawks. |

Hypothetical trade for discussion sake:
Hawks trade 3rd overall pick to Winnipeg for truoba and ehlers and 3rd or some kind of combination like that from another team. |

I think it was Breadman who asked if this season's On the Clock pre-draft video series is up and running. Here's a link to the preview to Episode 2. Scroll down to see Episode 1.

It's nice to see Colin Fraser as a scout. Even though Eager was the only one in the bunch who was drafted in the 1st round, I always thought Fraser was the most talented of the 4th liners of that time period like him, Eager, Burish, and Dowell. Fraser played on Canadian WJC teams and starred at Red Deer. |

Don't you know that having youth in the pipeline with a high degree of skill is highly overrated. Why spend time and effort building a foundation when you just want to live in the top floor penthouse of the NHL anyway.

"League sources said Friday the Blackhawks had reached out to the Carolina Hurricanes regarding the availability of a number of their defensemen, especially Justin Faulk, Calvin de Haan and Dougie Hamilton.
The Hurricanes overture hasn’t gone very far just yet. Carolina hasn’t deemed the Blackhawks’ offers as serious. No specific names were mentioned, but the source said the Blackhawks were offering “secondary forwards.”"

You must be sour about something. Like poor drafting or the salary cap hell problems teams inevitably face. I am sure you know that the best approach is to have a strong farm system with prospects coming and going up to your team or elsewhere. This happenstance occurs with good administration and a bit of luck. |

Fair point it was just for fun and discussion sake. In no way I think the hawks should trade that pick. Turcotte or Cozens wiz who would you pick and why? I would be good with either one those are my two choices. |

Tyler in your opinion do you think the hawks will make a blockbuster trade or signing? - Scott1977
I am not sure about blockbuster... but I am 90% sure they will trade for a legit defenseman.
They will also sign a ayer or two based on what I've heard. |

Without spoiling anything, on a scale of Cole Caufield to Zdeno Chara, how big are the rumors you’re hearing?
Would imagine “rumors” are more seismic than in years past, but would assume that it’s a relatively quiet offseason anyhow. - TommyHawk
Ha. Not quite Chara level but from what I'm hearing it's about to get interesting around the league.
Stay tuned for more. Should be able to provide info shortly. |

This is in line with what I was hearing. Not this specific rumour but the fact that the Hawks are becoming aggressive in their search for a legit defender. |

Also, I had Calvin de Haan on my fake trade list.
What might a deal look like? This is what I had:
--
CAR trades Calvin De Haan and Saku Maenalanen to CHI for Brandon Saad – If I can keep Saad, I will, but if an opportunity comes up to add an effective stay-at-home D in De Haan and an up-and-coming Finnish power forward in Maenalanen, I believe the Hawks would think about it. It's more likely that TVR, Faulk or Hamilton are moved out for forward help but wanted to add De Haan on here as he fits what the Hawks need.

It definitely isn't impossible, depending on his whork ethic IMO. He can improve his game. Another area where I feel like it is shared responsibility with the player and the coaches. The player needs to have the commitment to do what he needs to do and the coaches have to give him the right direction/advice/support to make it happen. Some folks will come here and claim that Gus can't improve because of his age, but you hear some of the same people talk about Patrick Kane working hard and improving his game all the time. The experience Gus gained might help him solidify his spot. - breadbag
With his offensive game, he would certainly be in for a very big pay day if he were to improve, and become good at D.
Seemingly, he and his agent would both know this. I know if it were me, there would be a lot of focus and training this offseason based on that premise. |

Nice write up TC, I still like Krys as a prospect....but man.... the “what if’s” surrounding the Hawks taking G Carter Hart with that second 2nd round pick. I’m hoping if somehow G Spencer Knight drops into early 2nd round the Hawks have a chance on him. |

De Haan is unlikely to be moved unless they plan on using Pesce on his offside all season though.
I would think the preference is to move somebody from the right side, Ideally Faulk, but they'd want something significant in return. |

Thanks for the update LBR.
I don't think secondary forwards, in my mnd, the likes of Sikura, Perlini and Hayden, won't obtain a top 4 D even if you package 2 or 3 of them. One of them might return Carolina'a TVR but he is by no means a top 4. I think a forward of Saad's stature will be required to obtain a top 4 D.
Maybe Stan is lowballing at the beginning and these talks will get more serious.
The next couple of weeks will provide a lot of news for all us to comment upon. |

Possibly, if the Hawks re-sign Faulk. With only one year left on Faulk's deal I'm not sure if it's worth it. |

Faulk has 15 team trade list which may complicate moving him and has only 1 year left before becoming an UFA. I can see Carolina wanting to move him now if they have no intentions of extending him. Would like the Hawks to obtain Pesce or De Haan because of their longer term.
Would Carolina be interested in Anisimov or Gustafsson as part of a package if the trade is expanded beyond just a Hawk forward for a Hurricane D?
