They have 17 million plus according to cap friendly plus the cap is going up probably 3 to 4 million. - Scott1977
Saying the Hawks have $17M is misleading.
First, that number is from CapFriendly with the assumption the cap ceiling will be $83M. The $83M number was the estimate posted by the NHL about a month ago and is subject to revision before the official cap ceiling is determined. The estimated cap ceiling could go down as has happened in previous years. It definitely won't be going up 3 to 4 million from the estimated $83M for the 2019/20 season.
Second, the $17M cap space is with only 8 forwards, 7 d-men and 2 goalies - 5 more forwards will be signed/added which will cut into that $17M.
Third, the Hawks need significant cap space next summer to re-sign Cat, Strome and others so they can't blow the wad on contracts that extend beyond the 2019/20 season.

The 4M doesnt bother me as much when I look at the Hawks D as a whole:
Seabrook - 6.8M
Keith - 5.5M
Maata - 4M
Murphy - 3.8M
Gustafsson - 1.2M
Jokiharju - 925k
Kokekooek - 925k
Dahlstrom- 850k
Forsling - (approx. 1M?)
The Hawks will be cleaning up some room with some of these guys to then make room for the slew of prospects - who will all be on e try level deals- like Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin and maybe Byram. - Tyler Cameron
So, in 20-21, the 3rd pair of Seabrook & Maata will he earning $10.8M per. Better hope the othe 4 are rookies making less than a million and Keith. |

The question os more did Pens want Kahun and not Perlini? - wiz1901
They probably wanted Kahun, he’s a more valuable depth forward. |

Depends on the big picture. Stan still needs to improve the PK.
I am expecting several moves between now and early July. |

Kampf, Sikura and Perlini, Kubalik, Wedin are not included in the above 8 forwards. Figure 6M for all of them. 11M left. Can bring in a cheap 3M FA Tanev ?) at the expense of one of them. Still can bank 8-9 million for next year's signings.. Anisimov may move too freeing up 4.5M |

Will also be saving some money at goalie when Crawford’s $6mil comes off the books next year. |

I’d expect that most of that, if not all, will be spent on a replacement. |

If Tyler’s reported rumors are true that Murphy, Forsling, and/or Gustafsson could be traded next (and let’s pretend it’s all 3 of them), then that leaves the following as a blueline template to build from:
Keith - RD
Maatta - Jokiharju
LD - Seabrook
Koekkoek, Dahlstrom
Ideally upgrade the D at those 2 openings and have one of Koekkoek or Dahlstrom as the 7th man.
There is the potential both Koekkoek and Dahlstrom are on the roster which means only one new defender joins the ranks. |

Thanks looked a little further into and saw that only 17 players and 36 contracts and 83 million factored in already. |

Not sure what the UFA goalie market will look like next summer but I watched most of IIHF and Kevin Lankinen outplayed Vezina trophy candidates/winners Vasilevsky and Lundquist. He looked like the real deal.
It’s also possible the Crow signs a 1 year Cam award type deal after this season.
Point being, the $3mil in cap space lost can likely be made up at goalie. Maata fully healthy like 17/18 and this is a steal for the Hawks.
Kubalik was a beast at worlds and I’m confident he can replace Kahun’s depth scoring as he’s faster and bigger with a lethal shot. I think he was top 10 in entire world tourney with 8 goals. |

Holtby and Markstrom would highlight the group.
I expect the Hawks to re-sign Crawford to a 1-2 year deal, depending on his health. Although he has a good Worlds I wouldn’t count on Lankinen just yet. |

Definitely sell high on Gustafsson. Maybe for a mid/late 1st rounder plus a prospect. Or part of a bigger deal to land a proven 3rd liner as well.
I expect Hayden will be gone this off season. Perhaps Perlini. I’m all good parting with Hayden but a tad hesitant trading Perlini as there’s lots to like but also the inconsistency may do him in if he can’t right that ship.
Of course, Saad and Anisimov have both been rumored to be trade bait but should only be moved if other acquisitions can adequately fill their spots. |

One good offensive season in his whole career anywhere - with well-known defensive deficiencies - who’s going to give up any kind of first rounder for him? |
