Ty did... he was probably the only one.

Although a few of us said we wouldn’t be surprised to see Stan pull the trigger on a deal that nobody sees coming.

- DarthKane

I also mention matta in trade proposal in previous blog. But that doesn't matter its a good start to offseason for the hawks.

They have 17 million plus according to cap friendly plus the cap is going up probably 3 to 4 million.
- Scott1977

The numbers will change but the Hawks will not be in cap trouble this year or even next year when they extend Cat and Strome, and figure out what they want to do with Cro.

Agree hopefully adding more grit and heart players. Need a 4th line like boston st.louis etc.
- Scott1977

Or
Can't read Stan's mind
But could he be infatuated with hitting a HR on a pick #10-15. Score app has a story of teams are too timid to draft Podkolzin.

Also: watch for a trade where Stan gets a pick back to replace the 5th.

I don’t mind the trade. Hawks need proven nhl d men and guys who can block shots.

I hope this isn’t it for their d upgrade but at least they didn’t trade the perennial selke winner......Brandon Saad.

Cap friendly already has that figured in, they have the cap at 83 million.

If the consensus is he's more of a 5D/PK specialist, maybe Stan realizes this and he is still looking for a top 4D.
- boilermaker100

I’m confident Stan is still looking to improve the defense - whether the right opportunity materializes remains to be seen. I’m sure he’d love to acquire a true top 4D - but the price needs to make sense.

We do need something of Maatta’s skill sets on the blue line, his cap hit (upon further consideration) isn’t too prohibitive, and he can fill an unprotected slot for the upcoming expansion draft. I just hope the kid can stay healthy and find a resurgence in his new environment.

Just wondering after reading all the comments of the posts. What “target” top 2-4 pairing Dmen would you like to acquire and their value? There doesn’t seem to be any real top pair Dmen available to acquire to me. Each has one has its own “issue”... Trouba might be the closest, but some say meh or not worth what he’ll want $$$. We’ve mentioned Klefbom and Murray from Bluejackets, which I would be OK with improving D.

Sergachev from TB
Nurse from Edm
Provorov/Sanheim/Ghost from Philly
Lindholm from Anaheim
Any D from Carolina lol
Pulock/Pelech from Isles
Parayko STL
Dumba MN
Werenski Cbus

These are the “younger” D that come to mind...that could be available if price was right. I really liked Esa Lindell LHD from Dallas who signed a new deal....would have been the perfect compliment to Joki (as a LHD defensive Dman and Fin).

I was just trying to see who you guys deem as a top 2-4 pairing that could be available... which was why I left off Seth Jones for example, as I don’t see any way they trade him.

I just didn't want to lose Kahun and would have rather it been Perlini or Sikura, especially with Kubalik coming. The transition would have been easier for him with his buddy Dominik here with the Hawks. And... I think Kahun has a higher upside than those 2. I saw a lot of nice things from him last year that makes me think he'll be a really good winger in this league.

As they say, you gotta give something to get something.
I just don't like what we got.

We will see.

Next move Mr. Bowman ??

I would have kept Sikura over Kahun, but not Perlini.

If we don’t like Perlini - why would think Pittsburgh (or anyone) would give quality back for him?

No one is given up an experienced top-4 defenseman (let’s assume for a moment) for a player who basically had one good week in his career.

(Never mind that I think you’re wrong about Sikura.)

If the emphasis is now on RD, there is Brodie and Hamonic, both rumored to be on the block. 1 year left on their contracts and have been poopoohed here recently. Each could be a "rental" for a year.

Pesce from Carolina still out there and Miller from Vegas.

I'm sure there's a few more out there.

Maata is better than Forsling, Koekkek, and Dahlstrom. Kubalik is going to be able to replace Kahun’s production and he’s a bigger body.

Maata-Jokiharju could be a solid pairing.

Love the positivity. Let's hope for more of it. I doubt if this Stan's only move. Hope we can all reserve our judgements for a couple of more weeks.

I like this deal. Kahun was a solid player and I wish him well with Pitt ,but he is very replaceable .Maatta is a solid pick up blocks shots been through the playoff wars still very young and fairly cheap . I wonder if this changes the draft and Byram . Cozens !!

My main problem with this is Kahun. This team desparately needs players that have hockey smarts that play a fast game. He did, and contributed on any line he played, all be it as a rookie..

- Hawkytalk

Do you honestly think that the Hawks trade Kahun if

a) they feel he has great upside
b) that they don't feel they have adequate replacement plans
(this fan base is adamant that a return of the "roar" is in action)
c) if they thought the return PLUS a mid fifth was not commensurate?

Yes please 👍🏻 Buying low on a speedy offensive winger to be 1LW or 2LW.
