They are definitively the two biggest pieces of shat in the league. There’s no question.

I mean, $5.5 is fine I guess. Maybe a little long.

They probably wanted to give him four but settled on five to keep the cap hit down. I'm more than fine with this. I didn't (and don't) think it was worth giving him a raise given his age, but at 500k less on the cap I'm totally fine giving him the extra year.

Not saying it makes anything a guarantee, but I wonder what this means for Lee. It may not be a "bad" sign, but I definitely wouldn't call it a good one either.

Leave it to b.d. to kill a deal

Additional note... also Eberle signing shows not much trust in Bellows supplanting him anymore. Bellows season in AHL was that catastrophic. #isles

Eberle at 5x$5.5m is pretty good value. Still leaves the #Isles with room to add even if Lee/Lehner return, but the cap space is dwindling. Might mean LL is looking to make trades to improve rather than free agency.

BD is a fat dipshit, Eberle is a RW and Bellows is a LW. A six year old could debunk his idiotic rationale

Bellows was never a 2 way guy.. just a sniper. That will not work in Trots world so he had a tough time adjusting to that role. Seemed to have a good playoff.. hoping he will continue to get better on the Defensive side b/c the kid can still score.

Jordan Eberle #Islanders
Contract Extension
5 years / $5.5M AAV ($27.5M total value)

2019-20: $5.25M Base + $2M SB
2020-21: $4.75M Base
2021-22: $7M Base
2022-23: $4.75M
2023-24: $3.75M

* Full NTC years 1 & 2, Mod NTC in years 3 to 5 (16 team no trade)

Just like Nelson, he gets a full NTC in the first two years and that changes to a modified NTC after that. Good deal, good start to the offseason so far.

Actually I think 2yrs ago, playing on the worlds junior team, they asked him to play a shut down role and successfully did his job, wouldnt call him just a sniper

Can he be exposed for expansion draft or has to be protected?

Bellows is not off to a good start, BD isn't wrong about that. He had a bad year in BPT. That said, the Eberle signing has absolutely nothing to do with that given the fact that they play two different positions.

Bellows was never a high-end prospect, so this shouldn't really be a huge deal for anyone. He's going to need time, maybe this year + another in BPT before he's potentially ready to be an NHL player.

He can be exposed. Only players that absolutely have to be included in the protected pool are guys with no movement clauses.
