I can't imagine a free agent who can play in a top six role making less the $5M these days. If someone doesn't want Eberle, that's fine; but thinking he was going to get substantially less money seems a bit naïve.

If Taylor Hall has indicated he's not signing long term in NJ we might see as massive trade at the draft. Nashville will gladly give us Subban Plus....

I hope NJ stays far away from Subban. Nine million is a lot to pay for a 3-4 D.

Nyquist is a middle six: he had more minutes than he deserved in a thin Detroit forward roster,. Because he had a good year by his standards, he's going to look to get paid. If I were him, I'd follow Holland to Edmonton at sub 5 and try to win there.

If someone gets suckered into paying more than 5.5 for him, I'd pity the fools...

Found this on reddit... it's not far from the mark: https://docs.google.com/s...iWLN54/edit#gid=707766415

I actually think Nyquist gets more than what's listed here, though.

I'm not against Subban per say and I'm not concerned about the money. I just sure wouldn't want to pony up Taylor Hall for that. It was just throwing out PK as an example. Probably a bad example....

Eberle is a 40pt mid-6 foward. 5.5 for 5 more declining years is more than plenty..

You guys think there is a chance Hall is traded to Rags to Chic for their pick?

Oh. Well I'd trade Hall for Kakko no problem.

Even if we did trade Hall it wouldn't be until well after the draft, and after July 1st.... also I doubt we trade with the Rangers again after the Grabner debacle

Subban is a year removed from 59pts and being a Norris Trophy finalist. He had a down year this past year but people are way to quick to write him off. Saying he's a 3-4 D is a little ridiculous.

.. we probably are still 1 more year away from being done with the rebuild.. and probably could benefit from another top 10 pick.

but.. we can't keep Hall AND do that, so it's one or the other. Plenty of pros to keeping Hall.. and plenty of pros to trading Hall.

and I'm not going to use my crystal ball to say which to do because I don't have one, so I don't have an opinion anymore.

I'm out of opinions.

except don't sign Gardiner. don't do that.

doesn't hurt to get better when you can, if you can.. if it's the right, smart move. Right/smart moves on a young team don't include spending young assets/draft picks on guys 30 and over. idk. In Ray we trust.

If we traded Hall.....He is a stud, and keeping him 6 years at 9.5M would be a dream come true. However, if he wants 8 years at 12.5M, I am a little more skiddish.

I would be ok if trading hall lands us a monster haul. I am not talking a 1st and a prospect. I am talking something such as, and it hypothetical: a stud D on a decent contract (Seth Jones, 5.4M AAV for 3 years), and either a 1st, or a player that addresses a need such as RW Josh Anderson (1 year 1.85M). The risk of trading him for a 1st rd pick and other picks is just scary. Yes Smith, Nico, and this upcoming 1st overall should all be A+ prospects. But I would hate to trade for an unknown mid-late round first and be left with Mcleods/Zachas/Quennevilles.......

Fourth on their D corps in time on ice per game. The Nashville Predators agree with me. They're the ones trying to move him. They wouldn't be if he was only worth 6.5M/y.

If you're winning the game 2-1 and there's three minutes left and you're looking down your bench, you aren't picking him to go out there because you know he's leaky.

To be fair they are a remarkably deep defensive team and PK made his bones driving play more then pretending he’s Scott Stevens. Just saying.

PK forgets about playing defense 50% of the time.

Ya but we have no one to play defense. If he was paired with a stay at home, strong D I'll be on board. But if we want Ty, Butch and Sev to pick up their O game, we should be looking at stay at home D's to make that easier.

Some GM will give him at least 2 years. Hopefully won't be us.

Would there be any interest in signing MoJo for 1 or 2 years?

The reviews out of Boston are that he was very good for them, but I wasn’t overly impressed with what I saw of his play. He’s a quality player but think he’s more complimentary then a real play driver. If we weren’t so soft up top then maybe but I’d prefer a guy with a bit of an edge.

So what do we do then Leniwm, its alright saying don't trade for this guy he'll be over payed, don't trade for that guy he's not defensive enough, and yet your not offering any solutions. What does your logic say we should do, HOW DO WE FIX THIS ?

There are probably around 700 players in the NHL. I think one of them would fit right in.
