This move was the exact opposite of trading Ghost. They traded a player whose value was at a high point for a player whose value was at a low point, hoping that the player can bounce back to some extent.

It's not a game-changing move, but it's not giving Gudas away for nothing.

What is wrong with you people? When did Gudas become Pronger? Niskanen’s contract is only 2 more years. We gave up a career 3rd pairing defenseman that had a decent year last year, decent meaning he didn't take a poop ton of penalties and suspensions, for a multi cup winner defenseman that can show ghost, Provy, and Myers how to play a solid 2 way game.

Even if Niskanen is declining it’s only 2 seasons. This was a huge win at best, and a lateral move at worst.

All of this! It also has the potential to be a good trade if he can have a bounce back. We won't miss Gudas if Morin and Myers stay healthy and don't struggle. Lets at least wait until the games start though to condemn it.

Yet we have people on here that think Ghost's -20 and whopping 37 points last years should get us a return of Domi after the stellar year he had. I find it so odd that everyone is down on a guy that had one minus year since 2011-12. Minus-3 isn't even that bad when you look at Provy and Ghost's numbers last season. Gudas has one decent year with easier matchups, and all of a sudden the Flyers got fleeced? The only issue anyone should have with this trade is the money retained. That being said, it's a short increased cap hit for us, and we get a vet who has won a cup. Should help our young D develop some more composure.

If nothing else, Niskanen is less likely to get a 10-game suspension for trying to behead a player who lightly jostled him.

Was anyone under the impression Gudas was in the long term plans for the Flyers? He was gone next year anyway.

As mentioned earlier, all the young D appear to be returning. I believe the UFA D market is going to yield some really high prices. I want change on the roster, so I m good with changing the top 6.

I mean, I can't blame it all on one player, but I was done with him after Game 6 versus the Penguins. I didn't expect them to win that series (and game 3 and 4 were pathetic), but those 2 turnovers were plays that high school kids wouldn't make.
