I hear what you're saying. I guess we won't ever know unless the official gives his reasoning which I haven't heard yet. Anyways hopefully Boston forces a game 7 so we get to watch more hockey. - Kinger411
I disagree.
He's almost always where he should be.
He missed the trip because of sightlines.
He missed the dive, because there wasn't one.
55 looked like he stepped on a banana peel.
He didn't see that coming, so how could he dive?
Let's hope for a clean game 6 and 7. - shoreorrpark
Oh, he knew he was coming. He was looking right at him a couple seconds before. He goes to play the puck and turns his back.
He did look like he stepped on a banana peel. Which was the reason why many think he was embellishing. IMO, he tried to draw a call. He saw him coming, turned and took the contact and flailed.
That being said, it still should have been a penalty. But I am not surprised it wasn't called either. Refs miss calls all the time. They missed calls on both sides last night, mainly because they basically put away the whistles. Especially later in a playoff game, like 10 minutes left in a 1 goal game in the 3rd.
1 penalty all game against the Bruins. 4 against the Blues. 1 delay of game that they had to call and one delayed penalty resulting in a goal so no power play. There were more penalties on both sides.

Both teams didn't get away with murder last night. 2 headshots plus that trip were missed, it's inexcusable.
I hate the narrative that because a team got away with a bad call before that now they don't get to complain... fack outta here to all those people.
Overall the reffing is atrocious in these playoffs. Numerous games decided by the reffing, numerous injuries caused... it's a bad look for the league. - MrBeanTown

Turned his back?
They were (all 3) skating forward.
Watch the first few seconds, it shows it great. He was skating toward the play, and turned right before Bozak and the other Bruin got there. He knew they were coming, he was looking for a hit from behind.

wow...he was playing the puck along the board with entire body parallel with the board...bozak was coming from his rear right..so what if he saw him coming how..he got slewfooted and tripped from behind both with bozaks leg and stick...
yeah the refs miss alot and "swallow their whistle" but that is as blantant and obvious you can get and sutherland was only 15 feet away...

He definitely turned just before Bozak got there. I am not saying that he can't turn there to play the puck. Just that he knew he was coming and it wasn't some surprise that Bozak was behind him.

The part where he doesnt get up and continue to play hockey is the best part about it.
Just sits there on one knee and gives up on the play

Stop it.
He was looking to make a play, not looking for an opportunity to dive.
It is fun to try and see what differing opinions look like though.
Agree to disagree on this one.
It definitely wasn't intentional imo, as Bozie is as clean a player as there is.
Unlucky play from my standpoint.
That was literally one of the most over exaggerated embellishments I’ve seen! If he just falls like normal and doesn’t try to oversell it you probably get the calls. The refs did the right thing in the Stanley Cup finals by looking at it as a tit-for-tat play And not taking them both off.

Yeah, I know he was going to play the puck. But he definitely saw Bozak coming and turned. I brought it up because people were saying that he didn't know Bozak was coming behind him.
I have actually talked a lot about these type of plays before. Players routinely turn before a hit in an attempt to draw a penalty. This is nothing new and players put their health on the line for a penalty. It is dumb and it needs to stop.

Players turn and peel off in order to avoid the hit, escape from danger and make a play.
I haven't seen many, if any purposely put themselves in harm's way.
Again, agree to disagree.
Probably not the forum to post this opinion...might get water bottles thrown at me... but if the accusations that Berube manipulated the refs with his comments is right... didn’t Cassidy just do that same thing... or at least try? Honestly he’d be negligent as a coach not to but call a spade a ♠️
