Just no to this as well. If they gave us Saad and threw in their first ok, no to sibban and trouba is not worth what it would take to get him and the pay him.

Their first, as in the #3 overall pick? Lol

Today's trade idea, how about the Devils make a play for Brandon Saad. He's pretty consistent 20-goal, 50-point producer (or at least close to it). He's 26 and the Devils can easily afford his contract and bring cap-relief to the Blackhawks. Devils can probably have Saad for one of their 2nd round picks and a prospect not named Boqvist or Smith. Maybe a 2nd and McLeod for Saad and throw in a late draft pick if that balances things out.

Hall-Hischier-Palmieri
Saad-Hughes-Bratt (or switch with Palmieri)
Boqvist-Zajac-Coleman
Wood-Zacha-Bastian (or Anderson)

The defense is still a mess but if Vatanen stays healthy maybe the patchwork D can hold up while Ty Smith is learning. Greene is way beyond his last legs as a top 4 defenseman.

If the Devils are going to grab a top-4 defenseman such as Trouba, the trade, unfortunately, starts with Boqvist. Subban would be a much-needed piece for the Devils, but I think a Kadri for Subban trade makes more sense for the Preds.

The Hawks don't need cap relief that bad since they have $20 mil in available cap space with no major players needed to be resigned this year.

Todd Cordell: On the New Jersey Devils' potential interest in Nikita Zaitsev
- Todd.Cordell

This would be a major mistake. Zaitsev has shown to be a bust over the past two seasons, and with Vat's/Severson/Carrick/Santini on the right, I dont see how he can fit in the lineup. That contract and term is so risky, we had better get Kapanen's RFA rights in exchange for anything that removes Zaitsev's contract.

I mean, why not get their best point producing ufa D, Gardiner, who will likely cost 1.5M more but with a far less dangerous term and proven production????

Zaitsev would be a massive mistake. He is 27 and has done NOTHING for 2 seasons.

Big NO!!!!
Saad has been on the decline for 3 years despite his age. Also, RW or LD is far more concerning than LW

As for the D, we did quite well in our own zone down the stretch. Greene is still a solid D, but he needs a major reduction in minutes. I am a fan of our RD, and if Smith can handle 22+ minutes a night, we will be laughing. Plus Walsh and Davies are big prospects that may be ready to step up on the LD.

I think the Dev's best interest is 2 years of taking on bad contracts, whether we absorb Callahan from tampa, or Marleau from Tor, and land a proven player such as Johnson or Kapanen in that deal. Saad is way to much risk and will shun Coleman and Bratts TOI, which has looked well deserved.

Lets get Noesen back into the bottom six where he belongs on the Right before we target LW's. I mean Mojo would likely come back on a reasonable term, and has looked GREAT in Boston.

Funny, I've thought Mojo hasn't looked like an impact player for them. I mean it's been more of the same as when he was here. Really nice skating and some skill but gets knocked off the puck easier then just about every other Bruin.

Conversely, with Chara down who isn't excited about MORE JOHN MOORE! (not really).

I'd only want Noesen back if he takes over Stafford's role as an extra forward. I'd rather let a young guy like Bastian get a chance. He did well in his limited time last year.

Not to dump on Stafford because I thought he played damn hard every shift and produced better then expected.... but he's done. Noesen was actually worse but I'd keep him since he's a lot younger and was better the year before. Not to mention he plays a more physical game. Could be the injuries just ruined his season and he bounces back.....

But bottom line is you are right on it. Guys like Bastian, Anderson and maybe even Q are better options. Hell, I'd rather have Rooney and Agostino.

For sure. I like Noesen, but I doubt anyone would argue that he is not a top 6 forward. He was playing over his head this season.

I don't know what you are watching, but Mojo seems to do absolutely no wrong when he is on the ice. He never turns the puck over, and has generated plenty of quality scoring chances. Factor in 11 points in 19 games as a limited role, and I am sure the Bruins are very pleased with their acquisition.

Yes Mojo is not great when it comes to physicality (but the NHL has trended away from that largely), and his shot is not lethal. He still has the ability to make players around him far more dangerous, and was one of our best puck possession players.

And we all know what Moore brings to the table. The good: speed and physicality. The Bad: anything to do with the puck in his own zone. They will miss Chara

I don't think he is worth it. I know the Devils have lots of money to spend, but he's not someone I'd want to use it on. Especially for five years.
- Todd.Cordell

That term is a deal breaker. We know he is not going to usurp Vats or Sev on the RD, so that gives him the 3rd slot. Ignoring his ridicules contract, is he even better than Santini or Carrick?
