All fair in the business and it is marabout the draft picks and if the guy Kyle Conner WANTS the hawks, what he will take, etc.

They will over pay if there is any talking by HIS agents with possible suitors

If the rumours are true the Jets are in for a painful off-season. Laine, Trouba and Roslovic all want out.

I doubt Laine goes, they’ll find a way to keep him. Trouba is likely to expensive for the Hawks to acquire. Roslovic would be an interesting target, he could be another former first round reclaim action project for Stan. I’m not sure what it would take to acquire Roslovic, but it wouldn’t be cheap, maybe Beaudin (plus).

I don't want to be that guy but FFS, its MIKITA. STAN (frank)ING MIKITA.

Sorry. I can accept it from fans of other teams cause they're idiots anyway. The highest scoring Hawks of them deserves to have his name spelled correctly bu fans of the team he played on.

Anyone have thoughts on Sean Avery's statement of a deal of Trouba for Kadri being in place? Could be a good move for both teams, especially with Hayes moving out.

Would this be a fair price for both parties?

- Q-stache

Defenceman young and pretty good is worth more than a forward especially Kadri. Kadri has discipline issue or whatever you want.to call it. Leafs would pull trigger on that trade as fast as possible.

Yeah. Sean Avery is a moron. Trouba would be worth more than Kadri, tho. Leafs would have to add something to find cap space to sign Trouba. Unless they move Marleau for stick tape.

Top defensive prospect as a trade candidate?

We are drafting Byram

- gifman

Not necessarily. Regardless of whether the Hawks draft Byram, it is likely that one of the top D prospects will be traded at some point. Stan and Co have been consistent in saying that. There was an interview this year where one said it was very, very unlikely that Boqvist / Jokiharju / Mitchell / Beaudin all play for Hawks in a couple years.

That is part of the frustration with Mitchell staying in college another year -- it makes him very difficult to trade (if they want to trade him) and keeps them from seeing him in the pro game (if they want to assess that before trading someone else).

It's interesting to see one of the holdups for Alex Edler's contract in Vancouver is his NTM/NMC so he can ensure he's expansion protected.

Keep an eye out for more stories like this coming out during negotiations.

A lot of players didn't enjoy the Vegas process and are more conscious of that moving forward.

Hawks expansion draft strategy would be a good blog! Lots of implications with upcoming trades and signings . . .

Red line. It was from the mother(frank)ing red line. Well, just inside it.

But it was only a 180 foot rink.

Saad is definitively a top-6 forward, regardless of which "line" he is deployed on. He's one of the best two-way forwards on the Hawks and a potential gamebreaker in the playoffs. If you doubt that, go back and re-watch Game 6 of the 2015 SCF.

That said, Saad is incredibly frustrating. He leaves one wanting more. It's the untapped potential and inconsistent effort in the regular season. His total game is at its best when he is being most aggressive and physical. His offensive ability shines when he simply reacts instead of thinking.

He may be "built for the playoffs" but a team has to get to the playoffs for that to matter. His cap hit and veteran status demand more consistent effort and production throughout the season. If he's not prepared to commit to the indian, then trade him.

How would the leafs pay Trouba and close everyone else...
- wiz1901

That's what I was wondering. Kadri makes $4.5M and Trouba is going to get at least $6M, if not $7M or more. Toronto has to shed salary not add $2M-$3M. Maybe there's more to the trade than just Kadri and Trouba.

He leads the list for me too. I'll be happy with whoever they pick as I like about 6 different players. I trust the people behind the process. Until they screw up and yell that they should have selected someone else. (Rf)

Earlier in this blog column the idea that Beaudin could be traded was mentioned. Mitchell, too, may have to be considered. Right. Because.they ate picking a 17 year old who may not ever be a first pair. To be honest, that is only a guess but you have to wait at least three years for Byram to fill out and gain experience. Sure Stan will wait while he plays cards with Rocky.

Mitchell and Beaudin are close to NHL ready. They both could get some games next season. Both are not difficult to imagine as future descent to above average and hopefully one day play in the second pair.

Beaudin reportedly actually is coveted by Bergevin. Reviews on Beaudin call him a solid defender......understands nuances of the position, knows and can play defence. This puts him in very good light because most rookies dmen need lots of experience until they perform adequately.

I just do not know what to expect from a Beaudin and Mitchell though IF you want to consider how much better they might become in defending. I mean both are not big & strong but some of how effective any player is comes directly from the players themselves. How physical will they choose to be. Very good talented but what about their physical play?

Kadri and Trouba really have nothing to do with each other. If the Leafs decide to dump Kadri it is because he has worn out his welcome after stupid decisions that got him suspended for playoff rounds 2 years in a row. Otherwise his salary is cheap for what he can potentially deliver.

Trouba wants to play in the U.S. probably Detroit. But the Leafs would find the cap space if they could acquire him. It would be bye bye time for Maleau, Zaitsev, Gardiner, Connor Brown, Hainsey and Freddie the Goat.

You're right, it was not a full size pond. And Lemaire got it ALL. Shot it from right in front of me. So much rotation on the puck it dipped a foot right in front of Tony O.

Even if the Hawks don't draft Bowen (which they won't because they're drafting Caufield) I would be surprised to see a current D prospect dealt. In an ideal world Jokiharju, Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell and Krys would all make the team but that's not realistic. There are too many similar styles. I think Jokiharju stays and one of Boqvist and Beaudin goes. My money is on Boqvist.

If he moved Boqvist this soon Stan would have some serious 'splaining to do. Won't happen.

I think A lot of teams will be doing cartwheels if the HAWKS take Tuecotte at 3 .I don't know what I am missing but in most of the rating have him between 5 and 9 spot . Cozens Byram Pod Dach Zegras Caufield all rate ahead of Turds . Cousins big tough can score ,what's not to like . Couzens will either be playing in the NHL next year or ripping up the WHL and leading Canada to gold at the WJC at Christmas .

Depends on the return, plus I wasn't suggesting any of the D prospects would be dealt anytime soon, just eventually.
