A guy the Devils should be looking is Collin Miller. He's signed to a decent cap hit and can really shoot the puck. I'm not totally sure he's available though.

Why would Vegas ever trade him though?

Idk, he's in Todd's article. That is why I brought it up.

Yes, they have six roster defenseman and are over cap. Why would they trade him?

They probably need to move two contracts in order to re-sign Kalrsson. Eakin and Miller might be those two guys.

Karlsson has over performed, they should probably trade his rights because his value is going to be higher now than anything. Eakin and Reaves are just cap weights signed to big deals when they thought they were going to be a floor team that need to go but they can't just dump them that easily.

I'm hoping this is just a punctuation oversight, but are you implying Moore was "physically one of the best?" You can't be....right?
- jersey1414

No, not an oversight. I understand what you are thinking, and I was not a Moore fan either, however he was an excellent skater who could shoot and hit. His IQ is what kept him from being a top 4 D on the squad. Trouba is certainly a top 4 D, but I really don't see him as an elite D man like many others do.

The situation has the ability to be exactly the same. Contract negotiations aside, we held onto Parise on until the last day of June, and by the 4th of July he was off to Minny, and we had nothing to show for it.

Lou was in constant negotiations with the Parise camp, and Zach & his agent said all the right things. The Hall situation will likely follow the same course. If he signs, great. If he just keeps talking about "weighing his options, but really loving it in NJ" we can't risk him skating away with no return. In today's NHL, losing your top asset with no return is a quick way to stall a rebuild or end up in one.

I love Lou Lams but my recollection is he stuck to his rule not to negotiate with impending RFAs until the season was over. He should not have let Parise anywhere near free agency. My opinion is if Lou had committed to signing him during the season he had a pretty good shot. Problem was Lou was piloting a financial strapped team. Not to they had added Kovy who was another financial concern. The year before Parise had signed a one year extension to get to free agency so maybe he was intent on hitting the market. But as they say in the movie major league "(frank) it, it's gone".

Taylor Hall is a different animal. He's not our Captain and he didn't want to be here. He hasn't enjoyed great success in NJ which Parise did. He's more likely to bolt.

We don't know what he's likely to do or not to do: we can't address his intent.

He said a few key things at the end of season presser... one was that he wants more talent on this team, but two, and this one often overlooked, that he really likes the locker room.

If you're asking for talent, and you're playing on a team (yourself included) with three #1 picks... you have to at least acknowledge that your GM is on the right track. It looks like the pieces are falling into place...

But like JT or Zach Parise, he could have hidden motivations that nobody knows about. Maybe he inclines to stay or inclines to leave anyway, despite what's being shown. We have no clue.

Free agency is a ball that a lot of players want to be invited to because for one day in their careers, they want to see how much they're worth. Shero truly has to "court" Taylor Hall enough that he doesn't desire this ball. I think he will: Shero is the guy that kept Malkin and Crosby on the same team despite both being #1C calibre. I think he can do it.

Yeah, totally agree. I have no idea what Hall is thinking or what his intent is.

Just pointing out in a lot of ways the situation with Parise seemed better. In addition to what I wrote the team had been to the cup finals in 2012 and had won three cups. Zach hated the Rangers and enjoyed the rivalry....

I think the good part with Shero is the team will be protected. He'll either get a deal done or he'll trade him for a substantial return. It seems unlikely Ray Ray would let us end up with nothing like Snow with the Tavares.

I want Zacha to play with Hughes. That'll elevate Zacha's game and hopefully get him to that next level.

Also, if anyone DIDNT read the article on the Devils 2nd rounders, its highly likely with at least 2/3 2nd round picks we'd get a player that should have been in 1st round.

Zacha has never shown offense at any level. Even in the OHL where 11 guys notched 100+ points the season he was drafted, he put up a whopping 43
