Supposing JB is playing it coy...

Any offer to Panarin probably has more to it than the contract. The sell would be EP & what other roster plans are in store. If Vancouver is a desirable place that at least gets his ear. We do have a Russian community if that is a factor.

Panarin and Karlsson have both complimented the city of Vancouver in the past. I think JB is learning how to play the media/fans, keep expectations reasonably low in case Plan A fails. That’s why he said that they won’t be after the big fish.

He’s definitely going to be in touch with both of their agents. He’s going for the HR swing if you carefully read in between the lines.

Guys like Myers and Ferland are his Plan B

At least we got an asset in Linus Karlsson for Dahlen.

I am glad we traded him to SJ . Payback for Goldobin

Sources from Buffalo at the NHL combine tell me they hear the #Canucks will go after UFA defenseman Jake Gardiner or Tyler Myers. Which one do you prefer?

Gardiner although a LHD.
Myers is overrated & a soft big RHD.
Be fine if neither.

I like Gardiner for the offence he brings but his back is a red flag & our left side would be very soft. That said it matters if Ops has RHD & RW’s that exploit that. Generally its not a strength of many teams.

I'd almost prefer Benning getting fined for tampering again.

Maybe he values going back to California. LA makes sense. If Toronto eats a small portion (1 mill), LA can add an extra asset in the process.

Also, come next trade deadline (if Marleau still wants to chase a cup), he can be moved to a contender (assuming he agrees) and LA can eat half of the remaining money all while adding another small asset.

Leafs get cap space.
Marleau gets to move back to California.
Marleau can still chase a cup in the last few months of the season.
Everybody wins.

LA is still a 90 minute flight to San Jose, it's not like you just fly up for family time.

That doesn't mean they will get either one of them.

Not with our cost of living/ tax rates
- CanuckDon

I dunno Don, i mean 20 % of the league has the same tax rates. Another 20 % has the cost of living although a city like Toronto is in both categories.

There is also lifestyle to factor in. I think with Vancouver also being somewhat of a fishbowl it's only worth it when the team is successful, unless they're overpaid.

I’d add a player who sees himself being a big addition that factors in. As for fish bowl that’s where we need a captain named asap. Onto to successful which we are not but how far away are we is what any big UFA should consider.

I think we're still in the overpaid category. In another 2 years we may be in the coming for success categary.

I mean if i'm getting an 7-8$ million dollar from a team like the Avalanche vs Vancouver i'm choosing the AVs for all reasons listed.
