Comparing LE to Panarin or is there even a doubt?

So which is it for Panarin...

All about the money? Getting paid anyways
Play for a real contender? Not FLA
Lifestyle? Many choices out there.
Loyalty to a coach? That’s unlikely.
All of the above?

I’ll go with lifestyle 1st & he expects he is a difference maker & bases his decision on those 2 factors. For a play driving winger i’m guessing he gets 10.5m/7 which few teams can give so narrows his options down.

Yes that wasn’t JB’s best move or the domino effect overall. Pearson is a decent result. Guddys health & his play didn’t pan out lol

No state taxes in Florida, over the life of his contract he could pocket 10-15 mil more than paying taxes in Vancouver.

Again though, if we are gauging the pro scouting by the only two redeeming trades in Leivo and Pearson, than that alone isn't enough to justify them NOT being called out. The list of awful trades made by our pro scouting far outweigh the good.

LE wasn't supposed to be a direct comparison of Panarin either. It was more so in reference of LE being considered one of the top free agents of that particular UFA class for that off season. Panarin the same.

pick a position on any line, both forward and D, and we probably need to address a spot of need. Our bottom 6 had the worst goal differential at 5v5 in the league last year. We need help all over.

Depends on what the 2 offers are but yes i can see a net gain in FLA. Still presuming money is only factor is presumptuous. FLA isn’t a contender nor even close.

I’d be ok with him at 10...very high ceiling
- CanuckDon

Seems like a stretch but honestly I haven't seen much of him - I don't think i've seen him in the top 10 on any rankings board. Im still a little leery of the BCHL/AJHL - they're becoming a little more prevalent in recent years but the sample size is still very small in terms of successful picks that have made the transition. Makar, Fabbro, Parayko for D, Heinen and Jost (who had very similar #s in his Dyear to Newhook) so there's a case to be made as of comparables. He's not my choice, but if we take him then you and Brackett must see something special.

Those same trades did get us better picks & we might not have gotten EP or Hughes. It’s strange how good can from the bad lol

The pro scouts are a problem no doubt.

Top UFA’s in any season is not my style to begin comparisons when a year like this one is rare & loaded with legit UFA’s. I’m past LE & moving into the present.

At 10oa I’m not seeing any game changers & iffy if a top 6 F falls to us. For D they are all a reach imo. Trading down is still my want.

Doesn’t matter how they performed, when they were UFA’s, they were considered to be top 10/top 15 players in the open market

Even Gillis got Sundin and Demitra.

Jost played with a much stronger supporting cast. Newhook played with trash. He removed a lot of the QOC concerns at the U18’s

That's something to consider - other than the tax and hot weather (minus the hurricane threats) You can play in front of 400 people on an average night with a team that's hot fawking garbage.

Barkov, Huberdeau and Trochek or Petey, Brock and BO??

Not exactly sure what is going on with Joanathen Dahlen but it sounds like his new NHL club has given up on him and told him he can go back to Sweden.

Supposing JB is playing it coy...

Any offer to Panarin probably has more to it than the contract. The sell would be EP & what other roster plans are in store. If Vancouver is a desirable place that at least gets his ear. We do have a Russian community if that is a factor.

I’m guessing he is a flake & too high on himself as well as simply not cut out to being an NHLer.

At least we got an asset in Linus Karlsson for Dahlen.
