He scores twice as many goals as Nylander. - Arctic_AARDVARK
.33goals/game
.23goals/game
Doesn't look like twice as much to me.
Also, pts/game is the same. |

Skinner is no stud scorer prior to this year. - RogerRoeper
Scored 14 goals in the last half of the year, which is basically his career average. If he continues at that pace that deal will be horrendous |

Also, the embarrasing part of that article was Hickey sstating Habs should offer 8.5-10.5 to not have to give up 4 1sts.
I am sure Marner will sign an 8.5 million offersheet. Jesus...
If that crap was in Toronto the guy writing it would get roasted.
https://montrealgazette.c...de-out/hickey-on-hockey-5
I'm sure Hickey at one point applied to work in Toronto and got rejected. - RogerRoeper
Unless its changed, the offer sheet compensation is based on total contrsct divided by 5 years. So an 8.5 mil 7 year contract is 59.5 mil. Divided by 5 is over 11 mil. And that is 4 firsts. |

First, it would have to be under 10.5 or so and not longer than 5 years in order to stay under the 4 firsts.
Second. I think we can all agree that Dubas immediately matches anything that *doesn't* entail 4 firsts coming back.
Third, he is going to be offered in that ballpark anyway from the Leafs. Why the F would he go to Montreal. |

Yup. Getting paid for a career year.
Better to pay the younger players and see if they grow into their contracts vs. Decline out of them. |

Sabres are just a really stupid organization. This is the Okposo contract once again, and they still are stuck with him.
15 million for Okposo and Skinner. Christ. Baaad cap management |

It's really hilarious people think Leafs have the biggest cap issues. Winnipeg's is a mess and they have a core piece who wants out. - RogerRoeper

He can score though, not saying he’ll live up to his contract.
Scored 30 or more 4x, that’s pretty good feat IMO
Scored under 20 once ( twice if you count the 1/2 season)
Not sure how he’ll look at 33-34 but teams will worry about it then I guess. |

He's a good scorer, but some of the comparisons of other players at similar totals or dollars are kind of ouchy. But then again this is what teams do, go crazy on salary arms races until they have another lockout. |

Great, so after they sign marner to 9.5m per, that leaves the leafs 2.5 plus change to sign the other rfas and get a couple of D.
No, not as bad.

I just don't see a fit with the Kings...
Zait and Marleau for Dion?...but why would the Kings want that?
One of them for Dion?...one would cost us an extra mill, the other saves us a mill?
Martinez would be the best, but again, why would the Kings do that?
Doughty's term and $ is out of the question
It would be funny to have Ottawa paying part of Dion's $ if we brought him back though |

How about Nylander and Zaitsev for Doughty?
Kings get a lot younger and the Leafs get a lot better defensively. |

I dont folliw as closely anymore so i wasnt sure.
But there is literally no offer sheet possible that compensates less than 4 first rounders that marber will sign and the leafs wont match.
Theyll match at 10.5 mil which is the max before it goes to 4 firsts. And further at a 10 5 mil contract no team can offer more than 5 years. 8.5 mil is an easy match. And marber would have to sign a 7 year contract in the 8 mil region to make compensation under 4 firsts. Which will never happen.
There is literally 0 chance marner is not a leaf next year. There is no scenario an offer sheet can work.

I agree he is not ready yet, definitely could use at least one more year in the AHL.
But are you really basing your opinion after watching him in one game? I watched many Marlies games this year and he was far from a giveaway machine. He was already arguably their best defenseman in all aspects of the game. - LeafGuy89
3rd best, at best.
Rosen was the best in the entire league. Had he not gotten hurt, he would've won the best D-man award.
And Liljegren, while not getting the points that Sandin got, was still better overall this season. |

Who sandin?
By most accounts hes surpassed liljegren and has a shot at making the leafs this year. I suspect rosen is a leaf all year. The leafs need cheap optuons and hes shown he can play. |

Yeah, Sandin. And no, Liljegren is still better.
Rosen and Liljegren will most likely be the 3rd pairing to start next season.
Unless Sandin takes huge steps this off-season. |
