That would be great news!

Just heard close on GR. Speculation is 8 years, 8.5-9.5 AAV.

edit: Per Bob McKenzie

Sabres and Skinner are close
- TheSabresTaco

If indeed Botts is able to close that deal, the Sabres are then able to start their offseason in the same cruddy place they finished the year. I hope he has more in mind for improving the team.

If the contract part is true here I’d call Skinner’s bluff on this. He think a team is offering him 7 years with a $10.2 million cap hit to match the 9x8 he wants from the Sabres?

I don’t think a team is giving him $9.1 million AAV either tbh to match the 8x8.

He's not wrong.

Botts can't possibly think this will be enough.

Plus, Krueger mentioned free agency during the Dreger Café last week

You keep saying this with no basis in fact whatsoever.

He's horrible.

- Der Kaiser

Horrible?!?! He's super-sniper Tage Thompson. He's entitled to a roster spot on this team no matter how he plays. And if you're not thrilled with his stats, then it's probably someone else's fault, not TT's.

Fair point
But i also don’t want us to play games with him & have him just walk out of spite

That’s how we lost Drury & Briere

Tage had HALF the goals Okposo did this year
Let that sink in

He had 1 more goal than Larsson & Scandella
And only 2 more than Girgs or Sobatka

He’s got A LOT of work to do if he’s gonna become a legit middle6 winger for us

I hope you're correct, but it's mostly speculation since fans so rarely hear from JB. I liked hearing that from Krueger too, but he's not the GM, yet.

With so many players still under contract, it's going to be a lot more work bringing in new guys. As opposed to next year, when there will be spots aplenty. I could picture Botts selling the old, "lets just wait one more year." Fans might grumble, but he doesn't concern himself with what fans think.

If the sabres are serious about icing at least a semi-competitive roster, they're going to have to take their medicine and pay Skinner. That's just the way it is.

He does. To a point. I don't let random people tell me how to do my job, and I don't ask for advice outside my profession for my profession. However, I'm still able to understand and sympothize with folks with their issues. So does Botts. He fully recognizes that fans want Skinner back. But he's not going to do it simply for that reason. Nor should he.

That's your opinion (not starting with you). I'm just saying, the owners know what's going on and if they're OK w his plan, he doesn't need to do anything except execute it.

He traded for and got the first 40 goal scorer since Vanek. He got exactly what he wanted, and knew what he what have to do to pay the piper, even if the acquisition price was a 2nd, 3rd and poopoo. So now the bill is due, and the fans enjoyed having a 40 goal scorer. 14 months ago, Girgensons was on Eichel's left to end the season. Fans have no appetite to go back to that after seeing Skinner. He must have had the foresight to see this situation

he got skinner and montour

these upper half of roster players, not something you can just snap your finger and get it

the price he paid to get montour was great value

if the skinner situation turns into a signing, that trade was a steal

trust the process

skinner did exactly what he was suppose to do when he got here, botts is going to overpay to keep him

if skinner put up 25 goals, it would be a 7 mil contract but due to getting 40, it will be 9ish because botts really has to pay him, can't let him walk over 500k, look at how that worked for darcy with peca

Tools are there, just very raw.

You guys love Josh Allen but hate Tage yet they are the same player but play different sports. Tage can’t hit the net, Josh can’t hit the side of a moon with a football. They both have the size and stature to be successful at their respective positions, both have powerful shots/throws. Tage has good hands for a big man but needs to put on 30 pounds and hire an accuracy coach. Josh has a cannon for an arm but needs to continue to learn the game, and work on his throwing mechanics so he doesn’t sky the ball 30 feet over the RB on a 5 yard out route.

So it was an interview on NBCSN.

McK says Skinner looking for 8 @ $9 per, Sabres offering 8 @ $8 per.

Split the diff, call it a day.

Josh Allen scores.

Tage misses.

Checkmate.
