Kawhi Will sign with the clippers

Here's the scenario:

Both players are 100% dedicated to signing with the Sabres. Jeff says 9, Bread says 11.

I'm paying Bread. But that's clearly not the scenario.

- TheSabresTaco

Doesn't have to be.

What we pay Skinner now will effect who we can sign for the better part of a decade. There are other quality FAs. It isn't Skinner/Pan or bust. Save the money, throw it at Hall in a year if you have to. Trade for players who have controlled contracts (RFAs).

There's more than one way to skinner a cat.

Does NHL do “guarantees money” like NFL and other sports?
If so, I could see Pegula and Co. doing this to alleviate the cap hit.

Isn’t that considered a roster bonus or a signing bonus ?

Not really

The Sabres cap is very controlled and manageable after next year

No Sobotka, no Bogosian, no Scandella

Move the Okposo contract and the Sabres will have one of the better looking cap situations in the leauge, even if you can't move Okposo they are still fine

Every NHL contract is guarenteed

What they can do is front load contract with signing bonuses.

What that means is the cap hit stays the same per year for example:

PLayer X signs a 5 year $50 million contract but gets a $20 milion signing bonus in years 1 and 2

The cap hit will be $10 million a year but they actual dollar amounts will be

$22 million in year 1 in cash
$22 million in year 2 in cash
$2 million in year 3 in cash
$2 million in year 4 in cash
$2 million in year 5 in cash

So in theory that player could get traded to a cash strapped team that needs to hit the salary cap floor but only pay out $2 million in actual cash but carry a cap hit of $10 million

I used these numbers as an example to simplify it

Never said that's how it has to be. I'm talking now. You can let him go, throw money at a guy and he rejects you. You don't gamble on what ifs in pro sports. If you have an asset you like, you lock him up. My scenario was just for two guys, in a what-if scenario.

The entire contract is guaranteed. If there's a buy out, I believe the player still gets the same amount of money, it's just the cap is based on the 2/3 salary remaining at that point in time. Unless he's under I think 25. Then it's 1/3

Just tell him to stop being a piece of poop.

Black olives are poison. Fresh (unpickled), green olives are quite good.

And let's not forget about stuffed italian olives.

I thought they fixed it where you could only reduce the money by x percent year over year.
Aka no more Hossa deals.

They did. Without looking it up, it's something like, you can't vary any year by more than, I dunno, let's say 40% of the average. But yes, there's no more 20M today and 1M for the last 3 years.

I used extreme numbers just to make the math easier

There is some rule in there but I don't remember exactly what it is

I know Pat Kane's last 2 years the actual cash he is owed is $6,9000,000 but his cap hit is $10,500,000
