It’s insane how Subban is all of the sudden kinda old
- sbroads24

yeah, turned 30 two weeks ago. it hit fast, i still sometimes think hes still early/mid 20s.

It's caught up with him too. His offense no longer exceeds his defensive impact. I originally thought me might be a target for Botterill but I feel like we have enough of those d-men already.

He's still good, even if he's not as good as he once was. But no way would I want him on the Sabres at this point.
- PrinceChill

I'd take him over EK65 at 9.5. Moot point though.

I'm with you on EK65, want NO part of him. He still has the talent and vision but his body just looks like its ready to call it quits.

Very good player and maybe he bounces back but, not worth the risk.

Why?

Strengths

Deadly shot/release
Skating and speed
Soft hands
Willing to go to dirty areas of the ice

Under Construction (Improvements to Make)

Lack of size
Needs to improve on defense
Doesn’t like to handle the puck in the defensive zone

https://thehockeywriters....l-draft-prospect-profile/

- buffalofan19

That’s not true though

Not that he’s “slow”
but his skating & especially speed needs work

P.K. at $9M for 2 years over EK at whatever the (frank) for 7? Hell yeah. But the last thing we need is another RHD.

Is it just me or did Anders Nilsson get a lot of money to be a backup, 2 years $5.2M, especially when they have Condon at $2.4M for another year. It is the Sens, so maybe they're just trying to get to the floor.

Blues and Bruins were 2 and 3 in GA this season. That is why they are both still playing. That is also why I value the player who can play in all 3 zones (Matthew Boldy) over the player who may be an elite scorer but provide nothing else (Cole Caufield).
- Pegullaville

We’ve been through this before...
it’s one year

Last year,
Vegas was 8th in goals allowed & the Caps were 15th
Goals scored- Vegas 4th, Caps 9th

Boston & StLouis were 3rd & 6th last year in goals allowed too...
and didn’t sniff the Cup

You’re correlation doesn’t hold up

Or we'll get another Tage, Berglund, Sobotka and a LATE first.

Not that I don't think Caufield is worth the pick (the more I hear about him, the more I like), but I don't think this should be the Sabres' line of thinking. The guy they draft won't be ready for most likely 2 seasons. The team's needs by then could be completely different.
- buffalofan19

Do you ever NOT need a prolific scorer though?
U can acquire size/grit reasonably through trades & UFA

The Sabres are also banking on him playing with Eichel during this time frame

Skinner is a 35-45 goal scorer per season playing with Eichel.

Then look at his last 3 seasons. Looking at his goals he has the 3rd most even strength goals for a winger trailing only Patty Kane and Ovechkin.

He got limited PP time in Carolina and didn't play top line minutes (or with top line caliber players)

He is a 11.2% shooter in his career averages 3.29 shots per game average 77 game per season (for this formula i didn't use the games played in the lockout short season).

So he average 253 shots per season which is a 28-29 goal pace in which only 1 season he played with a true #1 center.

Jack has his winger who can finish and keep up with him (and doesn't like to carry the puck as much as Jack does)

Jack is one of the best zone carrying centers in the league.

They won't regret this contract until Jeff is like 32 and slowing down, and by then who knows what the cap will be.

Am I happy its going to be at $9 million? No but I can live with it.

You'd have to. Use the late 1st for a forward and try to trade up.

Look at the amount of times you just mentioned Jack in a post about Skinner, now someone rationalize why paying a winger $9M a year when Jack could elevate the play of nearly anyone is a good idea. Anything more then $8M/per is an overpayment for him and I’m not going to apologize for that.
- Pegullaville

Not to the 40goal level that Skinner is at

Jack played 3 years prior to Skinner
His wingers’ best seasons produced 25-28goals
And Kane has done that without Jack

All his other wingers he’s “elevated” to goal numbers in the teens i believe

And if we traded for JVR, etc...
and they dropped 40 with Jack...
then they’d be demanding 9mil too

What 30goal scorer are we getting (this offseason) instead of Skinner for Jack to elevate?
And how much are we signing them for?

Why does it have to be this off season? We aren't winning the cup next year any it gets cut. I posed this question earlier today... if we sign skinner at 9m for 8yrs does any gm want to take on that contract? No. It's pretty telling imo. 7.5m is where it should be, 8 I can live with, 9 is ridiculous. Honestly, truly, think about it.

There's a few teams in cap hell that would like/love/beg to sell off a contract or even two for a late first this year I would think. Forget fair market value at that point when they're trying to clear cap space. We are in a good spot to poach a good middle six forward from one of those handful of teams I would imagine. Take on an aging overpriced vet cap dump for a year (not more than one year) to make it happen if need be for all I care as our window starts 2 yrs from now anyways. It's on botts to make it happen, if he cant/doesnt then (frank) him and (frank) us. If he doesn't take a swing we are probably (frank)ed peddling in mediocraty anyways, go for it imrho.

It’s apparently a far more nuanced take than you’re capable of dealing with. I, particularly enjoy conversations where one refers to the other by some sort of dolt-ish fake-name, like “Smart-guy” or “Mr Knowledge.” It’s actually a popular writing technique used by all of modern civilization’s most gifted storytellers. Well-played, I should’ve know I was dealing with Thoreau incarnate!

quick take on godzilla

1. fight scenes were great, so much better then the previous godzilla movie

2. tons of homage paid to previous godzilla movies

3. acting was fine, although that milly bobby brown was in it way too much

4. less people and more monster fights would have made it a bit better

if you liked skull island, you will love this movie and if you are a die hard godzilla fan, stay all the way til the very end of the credits, there is a second scene after all the credits are done

Corey Pronman:

Skating
Caufield is a good skater. He’s above-average and at times I’ve seen flashes of high-end speed from him. It’s an area of debate about his game among scouts. Wroblewski pointed out how often Caufield gets breakaways and how well he pulls away from defenders with his speed.

At the end of the day, I gave Caufield’s skating a 55 grade, but it’s certainly a strength of his game. He’s probably not the most explosive 5-foot-7 forward you’ll ever see, but his speed doesn’t hold him back.
