You’re obviously a young child or a “not-wealthy” adult with limited options. Either way, no worries. You do know that Canadian teams have a huge disadvantage with regards to the strength of their dollar right? And you know Nikita Kucherov doesn’t pay income tax..right?
- jimmy mcnaulty

Players are paid in $USD. So if they decided to exchange it for $CAD playing in Canada it would actually turn out to be quite profitable for them.

IF HOCKEY IS IMPORTANT TO HIM!!! Hey buddy, if hockey is important to Skins he’d play for a good team!! Don’t ever slag Jeff for A. Coming here & B. Staying. I don’t care what his motives nor should you, and the arrogance and cluelessness your comment indicates is just laughable. This a grown man, kiddo, making grown man decisions. Should he decide to stick around, he should be celebrated, regardless of why he did it. Should he leave, it would surprise NO ONE..for reasons quite obvious to everyone but you.

Let's see what the final price is. Regardless, a very good player chose to play here for his own reasons. Let's not all feed into the woe-is-me, inferiority complex narrative. There are many reasons players choose to sign here.
- jcragcrumple

It’s not a complex, Buffalo is a poor city with a declining population and a HISTORY OF SPORTING INEPTITUDE. Sooooo..who cares what we pay him? 8 mil, 9 mil..stop splitting hairs and enjoy a nice move and a really cool player sticking around for a while..it’s dope! And so’s Buffalo, but I don’t make 8 million dollars a year...the rules and needs/wants are different for that tax-bracket..let’s never again be oblivious to that.

Oh no I just made that comment in response to your leveling the playing field idea with respect to tax rates. Canadian team have a huge disadvantage basically..just more of an FYI.

I don’t know but it seems that you distilled my comment into some pithy cornball sh*t. Cool man. Thanks for the vibes.

Detroit and east St. Louis look like Kabul next to Buffalo. Have some civic pride. Proximity to family in Ontario, a very reasonable housing market (comparatively) and a #1C who would be hailed as the next coming in any Canadian market (but not a market that blames its best players) are all reasons to play here.

If Skinner is a greedy wiener and is pinching pennies making millions of dollars to play a sport in a city where he doesn’t pay as much in income tax then that’s his choice.

The Sabres are have been really bad for a decade. I’m happy we’re keeping the slick 40 goal scorer. If you’re not down with this..maybe lighten up. We have a terrible hockey team and Skinner is awesome. It’s also Buffalo, it’s not a great place, you gotta overpay. You literally have to overpay. Consider it a “baller-tax.” Buffalo can’t offer anything that Miami/Chicago/NYC/Toronto/Vancouver/Nashville/Boston/Montreal/LA/San Jose/Vegas/Denver/ literally every city in the league sans Winnipeg, Ottawa, Calgary and I dunno Edmonton kinda sucks but whatever..WAKE UP!!! Wake up you babies. Skinner can do whatever he wants, and our hockey team sucks and our city has nothing on those places mentioned..except charm and maybe the people but JFC the fans that are so sensitive and desperate and obsessed with paying Skinner 8 instead of 9 million make it a wash. Again, wake up..and honestly, lighten up. You can’t have Skinner for market value. You can’t. Stop comparing it to other contracts in other cities. Stop belaboring a point that is so clear and so obvious to everyone but you. Wake up.

Aggressively written but spot on. I agree with the points you are making.

Maybe in 3 or 4 years we are actually a consistently good team that is winning playoff rounds and competing for the cup. And hopefully Kreuger is still coaching the team and Botts is the GM which means STABILITY to the organization. Maybe at that time we won't have to overpay to keep our 1st 40-goal scorer in the past 10-years. Maybe. But the weather will still suck in Buffalo in the winter (sorry) and NY state taxes will still be much higher compared to many other potential free agent destinations.

Botts traded a 2nd and Cliff Puuuuu for a 40-goal scorer. With the lack of scoring on this team, you have to sign him, even at $9 milllion per year.

Carolina made it to the ECF this year did they not ?

I’m trying really hard to find a one dimensional 40 goal scorer on St.Louis or Boston rosters care to help me out ?

Detroit has a brand new facility and many of the same population issues facing Buffalo. They also have a historic hockey program and a couple Cups? I don’t know anything about St Louis but I know they’re playing for a Stanley Cup. Civic pride? I’m a homeowner in Western New York and I pay taxes, and I acknowledge that if made 8 million dollars a year, I’d have nothing to do with this place. Civic pride..lol. Grow up. These are adult decisions, stop debating me and just own this. We pay a superstar tax because we compare unfavorably to most cities in the league.

Detroit is a tire fire on the ice, and off the ice, they don't have the money to put tire fires out.

I agree with 99.9% of that you post. I just don’t think we’ll ever see eye to eye on Skinner’s value. I love the player, but he’s terrible defensively and has a career average of 23 assists. He has eclipsed 60 points in a season twice in 8 years. That is not worth “superstar” money.

Sorry I’ll just never value secondary assists the same I do primary goals.

He gets goals. They’re worth more

He’s not greedy. It’s not greed. It’s market value. And it’s different here than other places. I don’t wanna be hard on you..I’d like the fans to acknowledge that the paying field isn’t level. We can’t compete I certain areas..especially on the ice lol. But we can pay..and we’ll have to..until we start winning.

If secondary assists are so easy to come by why isn’t he a 75 point player ? Becuase every offensive zone possession is him just throwing the puck at the net. If he didn’t score 40 goals he’d be useless. Jack had 5 goals in 25 games yet as soon as Reinhart jumps on the top line he plays the rest of the year on a 40 goal pace.

With the amount of shots the guy takes he better damn score 30+ cause he isn’t even reliable enough defensively to be put on the ice in a 3 on 3 OT nor does he raise the play of others around him like other $9M players.

I think that's the one. I'm good with that. Drai is fine on his own, but he's great with McDavid. That's kinda what's going on here

If Tom Brady only had a left arm he wouldn’t be an NFL QB.

Now list their point totals and tell me which one of those players is not like the other. Atkinson and skinner are the same player yet Skinner is going to be making almost double.

I love Buffalo, and I am completely on the level with what it is. I’m also not sweating 500k or whatever certain fans are crying about paying Skins. Detroit has 4 major sports teams, all with modern facilities and stable ownership. And they have rings. Stop engaging me, I don’t like you.

Skinner drew 40 penalties this year. 40.

Your team averages 18% on the PP

How many extra goals is that?

Anyone remember Skinner’s ankle buckling against Wash on Feb 23? Remember wondering if he ever really recovered? Tell me who the real Skinner is:

60 games: 36 goals
[ankle scare]
22 games: 4 goals
