8 for 70 million

Book it.

8.75 per year.

Based on mark stone's contract comparison

Are you prepared to give Sam the same deal next?

I think it comes down to boldy, cozens and dach

and 1 of them will be off the board when we pick

- homiedclown

Cozens has been mocked to go in the 3 -5 range.

It would seem something like
1-Hughes
2-Kakko
3-Turcotte
4-Cozens (Byram)
5-Byram (Cozens)

Does Detroit take Caufield?

I like me some Boldy, and Dach could be a monster as well.

They are getting a good player no matter what.

Sabres are boxed in.
They absolutely need him and his production.
It's just a question of how much their ass hurts.

I fear we will hate this contract in 2-3 years after he fails to deliver another 40 G season.
Play hardball and stick to 8x$8m for awhile, call his bluff until he comes back with a bonafide offer of 7x$9.5m ... then match the contract value over 8 years.

I think they'll get a good one too. Buteven though he has been dropping lately, I'm still hoping someone 3-6 takes Pod.

Why would he get the same deal?

One is an RFA the other you’re paying UFA years.

Also one was a top 10 goal scorer

I would go for the more prolific goal scorer only because this team lacks any sort of scoring other than from their first line.
- Stripes77

Not that I don't think Caufield is worth the pick (the more I hear about him, the more I like), but I don't think this should be the Sabres' line of thinking. The guy they draft won't be ready for most likely 2 seasons. The team's needs by then could be completely different.

No. And it won't be.

Samson won't have the same value as a 40g player. He will also be a RFA so he has much, much less leverage.

The reason Skinner is getting 9 is because he scored 40g, is a UFA (has leverage) and Botts doesn't have the spine to let him walk.

Samson will get 7x7 and he will like it.

Pod going before us would help a lot. Slides the group back a spot.

One is 3 years younger and plays a better all around game and you are paying more to extend beyond his first opportunity to be a UFA. Plus he's always signed team friendly deals and probably deserves more based on other contracts (see Nylander). Also, top 12 goal scorer not top ten who was 66 overall in total points (Reinhart was 63rd).

Isn't that the case with everything?
A need today, may not be the same need tomorrow.

I'm not saying Caufield should absolutely be the pick by any stretch.
I am saying that pure goal scorers will always be needed, can't have too many.
If you find yourself overloaded, well 1) good for the Sabres, what a change that would be after the last 10 years, and b) the value as a trade chip will allow you to secure a player at a position of need.

If Reinhart is extended this OS, his projection is 6x7M

6 or 7 years, he'll get 7M. 8 years, he'll get 8.

No way

-restricted vs. Unrestricted free agent

Sam 6 for 6.25- 37.5 max

I think theres a good chance he gets moved next year if he wants more.

The 6 years locks him in with John Jack.
