So many LW's

Skinner, Sheary, ERod, Olofsson, Nylander, Wilson, Girgensons, Smith

Nothing against CJ, but how does he make this team without losing a few?

- Lunaion

It is a bit of a log jam. a few of these guys have to go

“Where the first one’s going to be (seventh), its always going to be difficult to move that one…. You’re probably holding on to that one.”

Misquoted, but basically the same thing. A late first is a little better than an early 2nd, not an early 2nd.

I'm pretty high on Cole Caufield.

This team painfully lacks elite scoring wingers. Imagine having two trigger men on the Buffalo Sabres. Woweewowow

Who's the first one?

I like Caufield too.

Assuming they're keeping Skinner would be my best guess

Yes to CJ Smith.

No to Sobotka.

Keep 1 of Girgs, Larsson, Wilson.

In the bottom 6 of course.

Good blog Michael.

He seems like he could be a decent 3rd liner from the limited time he had here.
If he were to eventually get pushed down to 4th as a result of an improving Sabres roster that would be good for the team overall.

Smith strikes me as a career AHL player who wont gel in his bottom of the line-up role in the NHL. Many like him over the years. Show some offensive promise in the AHL, never transitions in the big league. Just IMO
- lulags

am thinking we may see a lot of him this season...if botts and Krueger feel he's a part of the short-term future

Larsson did well for his role. Sobotka tanked and Girgensons is easily replaceable, considering he isn't really used as a C. He makes 1.5 or whatever to chip in under 20 points. Pretty sure CJ Smith can do more than that for a mil less. Wilson can be held onto as a rotational bot 6 wing.

You release Girgs, fire Sobotka into the heart of Czechia, re-sign Larsson for a minimal raise, use Wilson as a 13th/rotational forward, and you're on your way up. A priority is finding a guy who can take responsible minutes in both ends, especially defensively, and win a fair portion of faceoffs. Make Sobotka utterly useless. I should note that while Wilson is a nice player in this role, he's also quite replaceable. However, I don't believe he will be. Botts wants him here for his off-ice traits and his battle on-ice.

And finally, develop Tage the right way, he should be training with the Bills' tight ends.

Ah, ok. Still some work to be done on that front. I'll be interested to see how Old does over a full season, and I wonder who end ends up with for line mates.

Easy way out....no to Olofsson and Nylander too? ERod at 4C?

Can't see that. CJ's a depth guy if they don't make several moves.

All sorts of rumor-speculation that Botts and Don Meehan, Jeff Skinner's agent (as well as Reinhart, Dahlin and recent fan-hard on-player Colin Miller) will be meeting this week, as Don and Newport Sports will be in town for the combine. Some type of news should (speculated) be coming out by end of week as to the status of negotiations. Botts remains extremely positive, which is much more than what was shown about Evander Kane. Not much of a sample size, because Kane was the only high profile UFA Botts has had to deal with.

"A contract is never done until you get it signed, but our discussions with Jeff have been extremely positive. I think it’s been a relationship that has worked out very well for the Buffalo Sabres, and I think it’s a relationship that has worked out very well for Jeff."

I was at the game where CJ scored his 1st NHL goal (either Minny or Jersy. Cant remember) and he looked just like what the team needed at the time. Speed, nose for the net, good shot, able to get open.
Next thing I know hes in Rochester.

If some of these guys played RW, this would be so much easier.
