I get the Point ( I hope everyone is enjoying the pun), but I'm saying that if you expect to hit on all of those picks to be top line players then youre dreaming.

You take the elite player and run. My opinion anyway.

Point at 10/7 =14
Brock =7
Loui/Lucic =6
Bo =5.5
Sutter =4.4
Pearson =3.74
Sven =3.37
Roussel =3
Beagle =3
Spooner =3.1
Elias(with performance bonuses) =3.775
Jake =1.25

55 million in cap hit.

Assume we re-sign Edler at 6
Tanev at 4.5
Hutton at 3
Stecher at 2.3
another 16.
So now at 71 million, 75 Counting Markstrom
Not a good place too be, cap wise IMO

This was all about signing Point to an offer sheet, and 1 FA dman. Plus, you have 24 guys on the roster. I know Sutter will be hurt most of the year, but you have to have 23 to start...

I believe that’s “I’ll be alright without you “
Although your version is a better fit for the band’s response to Steve Perry.

So whats to say that any team attempts to offer sheet at more than 5 years? I would think that if Point were to sign an offer sheet, in all likelihood, it would be a max of 5 years for the exact scenario you just painted. No team in their right mind would offer more....

I mean, (frank), I really dont know since offer sheets have been rarely attempted but the buzz on social media from hockey pundits is that the flood gates should open this year and then we will really see the strategy employed by GM's is.....

Regardless, I'd hate to be any team with a RFA up against the cap.....

- chompsey

If you are Point, and Tampa offers you 8 years at $8.5m, no state taxes, you just won the presidents cup, things look good for the foreseeable future or the Canucks offer you $10m x 5 years - some of the highest living costs in NA and the team has missed the playoffs four straight years.

If you have to over pay to get Jay Beagle, you think Point will come at a discount?

Ill counter:

Point at 10/5 =10
Brock =7
Loui/Lucic =6
Bo =5.5
Sutter =4.4 traded
Pearson =3.74
Sven =3.37
Roussel =3
Beagle =3
Spooner =3.1 minors
Elias(with performance bonuses) =3.775
Jake =1.25
Gaudette = 1
Leivo = 2
Goldobin = 1

47 million in cap hit.

Assume we re-sign Edler at 5
Tanev at 4.5
Hutton at 3
Stecher at 2.3
Hughes = 1
Schenn = 1
another 16.

So now at 63million, 67Counting Markstrom

Point is going to sign with TB hands down in the offer is there. But until TB clears space, that offer wont be there....

I don't presume he'd prefer Vancouver. Nor do I believe it'd be that simple, but I do think he fits perfectly into what they need and the construction of their roster.

Just saying that JB needs to make that exploration....

I’m not a tax expert , but if State Income Tax is comparable to our provincial taxes, is that a big enough chunk of change?

I think the league needs to find a way to fix this benefit some cities(all in the US of course) have for signing players. Being able to save cap space because their 9m is equivalent to our 10.5m is complete BS.

I agree.
The whole intent of having a cap, was to prevent teams from having a disadvantage, because of their markets.

Not trying to prolong this, but, burying Spooner still costs 2 million, trading Sutter, would probably mean bringing back some dollars.
Luongo still costs just under a million, Demko is just over a million
Maybe leaves 7 Million in space. For a non-playoff team, that is kinda poopty roster. imo

True.
It is a reason that the NHL sinks a lot of money into USA hockey as well.

The only way to change things is to turn each Canadian market into a black hole for television ratings once their team has been eliminated from the playoffs.

The NHL makes most of their broadcasting money from Canada. Their cash cow will wither and die when advertisers realize that we've lost interest because the game is rigged. Then and only then will the owners take notice and consider letting it be a fair competition again and not just 'sportainment'.

I want them to have more than enough space to cover the re-capture, if Luongo retires.
Yes, I know he will probably be placed on LTIR, but they need too be cognizant, of that situation.

That part is frightening, but, Tallon isn't going to shoot himself in the foot to (frank) over JB, so I'd say its 99% chance he ends up on LTIR....

I wasted so many hours (years ago) debating whether that’d come back to bite us... They NEED to account for it unless assurances are made by the league. What a pain in the ass

I used to live close to Golden Eagle, hard work in those fields, smoking hot. This is not the publicity the family wants right now.
