Well if we had more guys that could put the puck in the net, those assist numbers would go up

Jack is a shooter & a passer
But Mitts & Sam are more “pass first” type players
They need their “Skinner” as well
Maybe Olofsson can be a guy like that?
Nylander is more of a playmaker type to me

The rest of our forwards are kind of blah

- jdfitz77

doesn't this cut both ways? If we had players who could make plays, we'd have more goals. It's the whole reason teams invest heavy in centres instead of wingers, they usually ride their coattails.

See I don’t think we really give up anything.

I think Tampa is at a serious disadvantage here.

They legit can only take back picks. They can’t take on salary

So a win/win is trading out Miller and getting back a mid-level prospect/pick and also getting out from Callahan.

We’re one of 2-3 teams that Callahan makes sense for

- OneKaneOneCup

It'll be interesting to see who else is in a position to take on that salary. I hope you are right though, Miller is one of the top 3/5 guys I want them to add this off season.

This is where I'm at as well regarding this idea. If Tampa thinks they can get Lemieux (B prospect? C prospect?), a 1st, and a 4th for Miller, that means they're adding a pick or prospect to each of Callahan, Palat, or Killorn as a cap dump trade.

What team, as you stated, has the cap space to take on the duo of Callahan and Miller, let alone the willingness to give up quality assets as well?

If they try either combination of Callahan & Killorn/Palat, they are going to be adding a legit prospect at least to that deal as that's a serious cap dump.

It's interesting you seem to think so highly of Miller as I've always thought of him as a poor man's (apologies J Crag LOL) Ryan O'Reilly, and with that, of O'Reilly is overpaid by say $1M annually, I guess $5.2M per makes sense for Miller.

It would be a GM JB move as this is not a smash hit HR, but more a continuation of his methodical roster building.

Skinner-Eichel-Thompson
Olofsson-Mitts-Reinhart
Sheary-Miller-Callahan
Smith-Erod-Okposo

Nylander and Blues 2nd rounder in 2021 for Miller and Callahan.

The dollars and age really work with the timeline here imo. The fact that he's not brain dead defensively helps too but idk.

Without question.

If Tampa attemptes that move, I'd ask for Foote, a 1st, and either a 2nd or another prospect.

The remainder of his contract paying him from the age of 26 to 30 definitely makes dollars and sense.

His shortcomings are not physical.

He can’t play the game at the speed of the NHL.

In all honesty

If they trade the Blues 2nd rounder plus a minor prospect and get Miller

The ROR trade ends up

O’Reilly for

Thompson
Sobotka
Miller
Montour
One year of Callahan

That’s a lot better than before

We actually traded a month of E.Kane and Guhle for Montour, O’Regan and a 4th.

I'm greedy but the best pick I'd offer would be a 3rd.

Overall on the idea you posted, agreed, and imagine if Thompson turns out to be a legitimate top 6 winger.

And they'll have saved potentially $3M annually starting the season after next as well?

Let’s say this remotely happens and Skinner miraculously resigns

Out -

Evander Kane - pending UFA
Ryan O’Reilly
2nd
3rd
Cliff Pu

In -

Brandon Montour
JT Miller
Jeff Skinner
Ryan Callahan
4th rounder
Danny O’Reagan
Tage Thompson
Vlad Sobotka

Am I missing anyone?

Again, that’s IF the Sabres pull off something like that in the Callahan deal their rumored to make

I have major doubts about him. But: if someone can get through to him and teach him how to use his reach, and turn him into a 3rd line PP2 guy, he will have a good career. That means that he'll have to figure out how to play in his own zone, which is no sure thing

That's his NHL path though imo

I have doubts too but I just have to laugh.

Thompson’s two NHL coaches he’s played under have both been fired for being awful.

Thompson’s been very very good in the AHL.

For some reason to a few, a good coach won’t help him, but could TOTALLY turn Ristolainen (who has 400+ NHL games under his belt) around.

I think TT ends up a career 3rd liner personally. Defensively sound or not

I think he’s Kotalik.

Huge shot and great hands for a shootout but can he develop the other parts of his game or not.

If he can we have something, if not it’s going to be a big nothing burger

IF we are able to completely RIP OFF Tampa Bay, averaging in the benefit of that theft with the debacle that was the ROR deal, will not make the debacle any less of a debacle.
