Rask is literally a replacement-level player. If he was that good the Wild would want to keep him.
- eichiefs9

In fairness, Paul Fenton has shown exactly zero willingness to keep good players.

He's atrocious and was probably going to be bought out if the Canes hadn't managed to inexplicably flip him for Nino.
- BINGO!

Im not saying he's great or anything, but i'd rather have him at W then Johnson at D. Didnt Rask have 1 good year before he signed that extension?

Yeah.

The worst thing Jeff Skinner ever did was make Victor Rask look like a legitimate middle 6 C.

Problem is that the Leafs can't take back salary and I'm not sure what we'd give them for Kadri that's fair for both sides
- eichiefs9

Problem is thats the Leafs problem and everyone knows it. They are gonna get the short end of the stick here and thats why I find him very interesting.

Picks, prospects and a bag of horse shat, who cares?

If Kadri is available though I know a lot of teams would be interested. That's a good contract.

Hell yeah, and again the Laffs are in a jam and everyone knows it.

Wouldn't doubt if Dubas and Lou are talking about this one

Probably right but all I'm saying is I wouldn't just write him off when his contract is up
- Vukota

I just see the money being better-spent elsewhere at that point in his career.

I wonder if Lou can pry one of these bottom-six guys out of St. Louis. Binnington is going to need a new deal this summer as well as Edmundson, plus RFA's: Blais, Sundqvist, Barbashev. Probably better places to try and steal guys from but those RFA's have all been very impressive in the playoffs.

Everyone always thinks teams that are against the cap have no leverage and usually they end up getting decent value when they get rid of someone. Sure, they may not get full market-value but they're not going to just give Kadri away either.

Somehow he's going to take a team that was the pinnacle of mediocrity and make them less appealing

Short end of the stick = Not getting market value.

Never said the Leafs are gonna take it in the ass just an interesting situation and better than over paying a FA.

Not to mention Kadri with his suspensions 2 years in a row in the pO's has put himself out of favor in Toronto.

With the #Islanders electing not to pay out any of Nelson's new contract in the form of a Signing Bonus, his camp instead took advantage of the 35% variance rule (max permitted in adjacent years for front loaded contracts) in both 2020-21 & 2022-23, the potential lockout seasons.

I love the Nelson signing he was the best player over the entire season up front and they couldn't afford to lose him on the 1st while trying to acquire duchene or panarin. Get Lee locked up and then go all in on a f.a. or two and maybe trade leddy for help too.

Edit: I actually feel optimistic about this offseason for whatever reason

The Trotz effect

Cory Wright

Brock credited Trotz in his decision to re-sign.

"He believed in me right from day one... and I felt very comfortable and confident with what Barry is trying to do.

- Vukota[He’s a] huge factor in that and coming back and that’s part of the [team] heading in the right direction.

Brock Nelson called the #Isles a "special group" and wants to ride the wave with the Islanders.

"[Last year is] just a start. Hopefully we see more of the same coming up in the next few years.” #Isles

Nelson knows nothing. You guys were LUCKY for 82 games....then LUCKY in the first round.

Then, luck ran out. Now Tanner can tell you how right he was. LUCKY Islanders. Gonna be hard to win 30 games next year. Sigh.....

You wanna pay him until he's 35 or older? Physical players break down, we're literally seeing it right now with Clutterbuck. Cizikas has missed 9, 18, and 23 games in each of the last three seasons and that's not going to get better as he ages.
- eichiefs9

I agree. I really like Casey but he will only break down even more. Injuries will be a factor with him more and more.

Probably. You’re afraid that Nelson will revert to his former self. It would be a reasonable concern, if we had a different coach. But I think that Trotz will continue to get solid 2-way hockey out of Nelson......and from his comments I think Nelson recognizes this.

This was a good signing.

Isles will be out of the playoff race by the end of September.
