Hopefully Nelson doesn’t take games off now that he has this deal. He has been on and off for a while

And now it's done. #Isles sign Brock Nelson to a 6-year deal.

Nelson gets six years, $6 million AAV.

Good AAV, good deal, good news.

I think it's a very good deal.

I'd be happy with 6.5 any more then that, I hope there is less term
- Vukota

I agree Vukota. Terms needs to be less if more than 6.5.

Have to think Eberle is gone and Lou looks to bring in a wing for Barzal.

I think they'll be all over Skinner if he makes it to July 1st, assuming Panarin doesn't want to play here

Have to think so chief. Duchene I cannot see being an option.

Nah, I think they bring back Flippula for another year to be the 3rd line center even though I would prefer somebody younger

The Trotz effect

Cory Wright

Brock credited Trotz in his decision to re-sign.

"He believed in me right from day one... and I felt very comfortable and confident with what Barry is trying to do. [He’s a] huge factor in that and coming back and that’s part of the [team] heading in the right direction.

Brock Nelson called the #Isles a "special group" and wants to ride the wave with the Islanders.

"[Last year is] just a start. Hopefully we see more of the same coming up in the next few years.” #Isles

I also would like someone younger. Would be nice if Otto was ready.

I'm telling you:

To TBL: Wotherspoon, 2020 2nd, 2021 3rd

To NYI: Callahan, one of Barre-Boulet or Mitchell Stephens

I'll beat this drum until I die

Or....piggybacking on gergeswillems comment in Ek's thread

Maybe something like Nielsen w/ 50% salary retained and the Isles own 2nd round pick back for a late round pick. Nielsen has 3 more years left on his deal but at $2.63M he'd be a good 3C for now and can replace Cizikas when his deal expires (we should absolutely not re-sign him when that's done)

He's got only a year left. He can rotate in and out of the lineup when Clutterbuck is healthy again and he's a leader. I think he's got more value than people give him credit for. On a one-year deal (essentially) he's a zero risk acquisition and if it gets us a young guy that can be a core player for 10+ years...it's totally worth it.

A lot of us talked about Nelson last summer saying this was about the Age where it finally clicked for a lot of players in the past. He certainly played his best and most consistent hockey last year. Whether that was the Age or the coaching staff I trust that Barry and Crew will not allow a guy to pull a houdini for a month at a time.

Isles need to address the top 6 imho. The bottom 6 did just fine last year. I like callahan but a 1 year deal for another bottom 6 guy who's better years are behind him isn't what the team needs moving forward, I think lou address that in the room with last years Shat signings. We need to build the top 6 and the scoring now.

Kadri is interesting. Can play center and wing and Toronto needs to move some salary this off season.

I am still hoping for Duchene as our other Center... having Barzal, Duchene, Brock and Casey would be friggin solid middle.

Good question, basically the same player as Calahan just younger and better.
