Chernobyl on HBO is strong. Great show, it really shows the strength of the people over there.

I lived with 2 guys from Kiev in Bushwick...they look like us but they are a different breed.

Yeap. So for Skinner it’s around 7 to 7.5 based on his 63 points last year and him continuing to produce with Eichel. (I’m banking on that

If he gets 8+ it’s going to be a contract I think the Sabres regret in 4 years.

Thing is the Sabres need him so badly.

- ImThatGuy

i gotta think he is at least getting 8 or he is going to the open market. no reason for him to settle..

The cap goes up every year, if Skinner sucks in 4 years the Sabres will regret it, if he doesn't they won't- regardless of what he's getting paid

^^This^^

He needs to be signed, and they need to find 50 more goals.
I would want a shorter term contract though. 6x8.25

I think these guys look at contracts in terms of total value (ie aav x term) as opposed to just aav in isolation. 6 x 8.25 asks skinner for a concession of 17 million dollars *(compared to 8 x 8) and proposes that he would have to sign a final contract of 2x$7m at the age of 33, as a 15 year vet. You have to think he's using 8 years as the guage because that is the greatest benefit we can offer him.

I like the idea of shaving term, but I don't think you'll get him to agree to those numbers.

It's more likely we would get him to do something closing to $9m x 6.

I agree 1000%

I'm Ok with 8 x 7.5 or 8 x 8, no matter what, I think the Sabres regret that contract in 4-5 years regardless...

Good points, and I agree.for the most part.

We are seeing shorter than max term deals for players re-signing with their existing club.
It has caught my eye and I'm wondering how other clubs are able to secure that contract...the latest of which is Nelson's

I am thinking GM's may be giving thought to the idea of the next round of CBA negotiations limiting contract lengths...so, maybe they are playing hardball to ensure they don't have excessively long contracts that become even more difficult to trade several years from now.

I do think Skinner now goes to the legal tampering period...why wouldn't he.

After Leino and Okposo, an aging Skinner contract would be tough to justify as regrettable.

I may have the details off a bit, but Sean Tierny has a website that projects Contract Term and AVV for FA's based on historical data...I believe that "calculator" had a 7x$7.5m projection.
I don't have access to it to pull it up, but something in that ball park.
I thought the AVV was surprisingly low from what the rumors are flying around.

We shall see in late June I guess.

Found this tidbit from the Chicago Tribune, in an interview they did with Turcotte's Dad
“We’ve come to the conclusion it’s between 3 and 7,” Alfie said. “He’s not going to get past Buffalo at 7. I had interviews with Buffalo myself. This was before the lottery. They said if they had the third pick, they’re taking Alex. But you never know how it’s going to play out. Draft day there can be trades and switching picks.”

The value of the contract should be front loaded to align with his expected prime years. An aging Skinner still playing with the passion and tenacity holds value even if his production decreases. So I’m my opinion, not regrettable.

Lieno and Okposo not only declined rapidly in production but in all aspects of the position they held. This is not a dig on them as people but as employees, they both are paid significantly more than the value they bring. In my opinion, regrettable.

Does Botts trade #7 + for #3 to ensure he gets his man?

.5-1.0mil more is gonna make a difference?
I don’t get this line of thinking

If he gets to the point where we regret having him...
then he’ll suck taking up 7.5mil on the Cap just like he would if he’s taking up 8.5mil
