Nelson's deal with the Islanders is done. 6-years, $36M

- Stripes77

So that sets the minimum for Hayes then
Multiple teams being interested could push that number up a bit

6x6 for a consistent 20 goal scorer who got better once Tavares left?

we WISH this was what we got with Okposo.

I would think so. Although Nelson has the edge in goal scoring. But they're very similar. I'd still be interested in Hayes for the sabres, but not for that 6th year.

Well looks like my dream of signing Brock Nelson for 2C/3C is dead
- Pegullaville

I’m gonna come at you a bit here dude

Nelson & ROR were both born in ‘91,
so roughly the same age

Yet you are swearing that ROR is gonna break down in a year & a half & has already started his decline
But u “dreamed” of Nelson???
1.5mil cheaper, but under contract for 2years longer
And O’Reilly is undeniably the superior player

This is why i had such a hard time with your argument about saving Cap Space by trading ROR
Bc if all we saved it for, was to sign a lesser player... then we didn’t really “save” it
I’d actually say that’s pretty bad mismanagement of the Cap imo

I don’t want Hayes at all

Decent player
But not good enough to be paying 6mil (or more)
Especially once Mitts is our 2C,
which should be sooner than later

Funny I got roasted here for saying Brock Nelson 6x6 and that is exactly what he signed for.
- sabresfan69

Who “roasted” you for that?

Those were pretty common numbers being discussed for both him & Hayes

I'd be good with it 5yr/$30. Suits our 2c role for '19-'20 and then he can play 3C going forward. I wouldn't do it for 6 years though

U think he’s a fit for the “3C” role though?

Is he good enough defensively to handle the tough matchups & zone time in our own end?

I don’t want Mitts or Eichel in those spots
So if we acquire a 2C/3C,
i want it to be a good 2way player like Cirelli or W.Karlsson

U strike me as the kind of guy who goes to Kelly’s for the Bills games instead of McFadden’s

I think he could play a 2nd line wing role as well when Mitts is ready, and fallback depth on center is never a bad thing. Cirelli or Karlsson would change things for sure though.

If we are gonna be a contender at some point,
I’m not envisioning Hayes as LW2
And $6mil is too much for a 3rd line guy

Overpaying for these 3rd tier guys just doesn’t make sense to me

Too reactionary
Just let Mitts grow into the legit 2C that we need

We don't have a 2C for next year, unless mitts goes to the Gary Roberts training camp if that's still a thing. Also, Hayes would have been 4th on this team in points this past year, so I wouldn't call him 3rd tier. If there are other solutions for next year, I'm open to it, but $6m to have a guy play 2C for you is not ridiculous atm

Okposo will be LTIR for AT LEAST 2 of those years... maybe 3 or 4 I'm betting.
- JVince11

That means he would be done right now. He isnt going on LTIR...

I didn’t think he’d get 6x6, although I’m not surprised given the stupid money thrown around during this time of year. Drafting well is always the best formula of accumulating talent, that’s why I laugh when people say I’m not a real fan when I’d rather my team pick top 10 then play an extra week and a half of hockey.

O’Reilly has played 300 more games than Nelson.

I think games played and wear and tear on your body is more important than age.
