Should try to sign DBC and Strom now if that is even possible .I see DBC scoring 50+ next year . 50 + = 10.5
- oldduffman

Both have 0pts in the playoffs

I'll gladly accept the draft picks if someone wants to offer either of those two 7+ mil per year out of their rookie contracts

Great. Another coach with zero NHL coaching experience

That should help solve the lack of D system or line matchups 👍

I think they like to start the Final on Memorial Day. They’ve been doing that since 2016.
- walleyeb1

Memorial day in Canada, athough it's not generally referred as that, would be July 1.

You don't think it would be a good idea to see what they can do before evaluating/criticizing them?

Well, I guess my vote for bringing in a veteran NHLer with some NHL coaching experience like Kirk Muller or John Madden went into the black abyss.

Here is Tomas Mitell's playing and coaching history:

No, that's Canada Day (or more importantly NHL free agency day). Our equivalent holiday is Victoria Day (aka the May two-four) which this year fell on May 20th.

Think the Hawks will have trouble recruiting Swedish players moving forward?

Anton Wedin already admitted he selected CHI b/c Colliton was familiar with him from there.

Now, the Hawks announce Tomas Mitell, a Swedish-born player and coach... they are set now.

One good thing about the Mitell announcement is that Stan is giving full autonomy to his coach vs. him being brought in to be a "Yes" man for Stan, Scotty and John.

This is Jeremy's hire and time will tell if it was a wise one.

It looks like Management gave Collitonn full reign on who he could hire, interesting as it appears they told Quenville who his assistants will be the last few years

I'm not saying that's the strategy but Hawks putting a lot of investment into guys who really believe in/play Swedish hockey.

It's something of note.

You may disagree with the system Colliton is going to use but it's incorrect to state there isn't a "D system". He described it briefly in an interview a few weeks ago, calling it "man and a half". He described it as not "man to man" but rather a 200' system that incorporates some elements of man to man. It was pretty interesting and the main takeaway is that he will have training camp and preseason to install the system. He said once the basics are are installed and the players understand and execute, there are additional "layers" that will be added as they can be.

Exactly right. I assume Mitell is familiar with the "man and a half" system Colliton wants to use and therefore it makes sense to have an assistant who is on the same page with not only the X's and O's but also a proponent of the system. Muller or Madden may be very good in terms of the NHL game but may not fully grasp or appreciate the system Colliton wants to run. Will it translate to success in the NHL? We'll see - but I like the commitment to go into it 100%.

Really, why go there?

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cherry was asked if he regretted questioning the fortitude of Swedish hockey players by calling them “chicken Swedes.” He replied, “I never called a Swede a chicken because I have nothing against chickens.”

An EU influence on the bench may not be a bad thing. The Hawks could have 10+ players on their opening night roster that are not Americans or Canadians.

AA
Kahun
Kurashev
Kubalik
Kampf
Joki
Perlini
Gus
Forsling
Koekkoeck
Lankinen
Wedin
Soderlund

All of these guys will be on the opening night roster. There could be additions and subtractions through trades.

I have nothing against Cherry because I see him for the goof he is. His shtick offends some people but really why care what he says? It's just his act and means nothing other than for entertainment value. I kind get a kick out of the guy.
