I think the Flyers product on the ice would look a lot better if the Flyers could just leave things alone.

With this said, I’m hoping Frost and Farabee are everything is fans have hyped them up to be.

I do think Hextall got a little too Hinkie-like with his sacrificing the present for the undefined future. Remember, last year was supposed to be the step forward year, and he did nothing to address existing holes. That said, you should always be open to deals that you feel could improve your team, but you have to make sure you don't open up unfillable holes in the process.

As for Mr. Schenn, I think he's an extremely talented hockey player. I don't like the fact that he seemed unable to throw a hit without leaving his feet, but he has undeniable skills. My biggest issue with him, at least during his time here, was his hockey sense. He never seemed to read a play well, offensively or defensively, and just got by on natural talent. That's not to say he's a bad player, just that it seemed that he could be so much more. The Flyers clearly downgraded their present when they traded him, but they weren't winning the Cup that year, or even this year, with or without him. I wish him all the best in St. Louis.

So far, the early returns or Frost and Farabee have been better than hoped, and I hope both can be major contributors to the Flyers in the next year or two.

I have no idea what Schenn would be here today but he’s thriving in St Louis. When we traded Hartnell, the Flyers used him like Hartnell, in Hartnell’s spots. We also didn’t know what forward position to use him in after LW failed.

I always liked Schenn on the forecheck and in front of the net WITHOUT the puck

With the puck on his stick the play/possession seemed to die more often than it should

I've always wished him well in St Louis, but it was really satisfying in the Blues' first game in Philly in January of last year when he gave Giroux a shove at the start of the game and Giroux promptly put him on his ass

Literally no one cares how teams like Pittsburgh win championships. And that goes for any sport.

There is no such thing as an asterisk. They either do or don't. Bill Belichick is a master at this Machiavellian line of thinking.

This line of "oh this franchise does things the right way!" is such a load of garbage.

Fire Laviolette, replace with Berube. Laviolette goes to SCF
Fire Berube, replace with Hakstol. Berube goes to SCF.

The only constant is the Flyers are still a dumpster fire.

You spelled Punchface wrong.
You also left out how the Flyers got to the SCF with Laviolette

Now Hakstol is going to the SCF as a coach? He has to get a job first. Wow wouldn’t that be a kick in the nads.

Happy with the return which won’t pay off for a couple of years. Oddly Schenn would be an ideal 2C right now on the club which tells us all we need to know about the step backwards that trade was in the short term. I think when the Flyers made that trade they should have done more. Gone full to almost full rebuild. Otherwise it is what we have today, a bubble team with some good prospects. I would have traded V and Simmer but hindsight is 20/20.

Also, at the time, G was slotted at center so there was a bit of a glut there. I know, i know, there are no such things as too many centers, but at the time Schenn seemed expendable for our future. As you said hindsight is 20/20, and coots, schenn, and patrick would look pretty good as our pivots moving forward. Playing with Jake and Lindblom, wonder how his offensive numbers would look.

We shall see how Baba Roobey does in the Finals. Have to give the guy credit taking a team from last in the NHL on January 3 to the Finals. Very impressive.
The talent on that team suggests they just quit on Yeo.

Where is Yeo now?

Absolutely!!!

In all my years as a Flyers fan, we’ve always been competitive. We’ve always added to the product on the ice when we added Pronger, Jagr, Forsberg or Amonte. You can still stock the cupboards and be competitive. Since Hextall took over we’ve dropped off players. Simmonds, Schenn, Hartnell and have done very little to replace them. Yes, I understand some of these player have gotten older and the production has dropped but you still should look to replace this production as quickly as humanly possible.

so we have a coach the players quit on last year and we hire another coach where the players quit on him...

For me, it’s never been a hindsight view. We made the Schenn trade an hour after we drafted Patrick. It was a Conscious choice to trade Schenn when we had plenty of space to keep him and continue being a competitive team. I’ve made this argument for the past two full years.

I think Vigneault is a good coach. Coaches have a shelf life for the most part. I think AV kind of ran his course with the NYR. Outside of Quenneville, he's got the best resume of anyone else that was on the market.

Good points.

I don't quite get the hate that some gave the hiring of AV as IMO Quenneville was only going to one team so after that AV was the best candidate.
