Anyone find it odd when they were talking to Gorton after the press conference about being in Slovakia he was talking about Hughes and kind of mentioned Kakko as an after thought |

I didn't see that. Sounds kinda dumb though. Hughes isn't "falling" to the Rangers. Why not talk about the likely pick at 2 being Kakko? |

Yeah, it was just weird since the consensus is the Devils taking Hughes |

Probably because his first thought is Spencer Knight |

I remember how tense things got when the Islanders wouldn't commit, or even hint, at who they were going to take with the #1 pick in 2009. I was at the draft party and overheard (and said myself) a thousand "I swear to god, if they (frank)ing pick Hedman or Duchene..." comments |

I had one Islander fan who I work with, old time fan, but he always thought they should have taken Hedman from day 1, he was old school Denis Potvin guy, build from defense out guy, and really hasn't shut up about it since. He really never warmed up to Tavares. |

I mean we are in a good spot cause we just get who they don't pick, but the suspense of who we get is going to kill me. |

There was always a small sect of Islander fans that didn't like him. It'd be wrong to say that Hedman would've been a "bad" pick but at the time it was 1000% the correct thing to do. There's no guarantee Hedman or Duchene would've stuck around as long as he did either. |

Can't understand that though. Yeah the way he left was crappy, but everything preceding that, the guy was pretty much responsible for the Islanders even being relevant again. |

When there's two top-end players in a draft the 2nd pick is really probably the best spot to be for a GM. There's no possibility of blame when it's only two clear-cut picks. If Shero takes one guy and the other one turns out to be much better then he looks like a giant dingus. |

I think there was always a feeling like they expected more from Tavares than they got.
They expected Hart trophies. |

He was (frank)ing a top 5 center in the league and surrounded by poop on skates for most of his time there. |
