D&D is great for just hanging with your friends. I really not into the whole D&D scene, I'd only play campaigns with my group. We usually put a couple troll characteristics in all our characters.

You guys want to see some freaks, inquire about the game Vampire. I've heard what goes into those kind of games, it's nuts. I'm not showing up on some random street corner at 2 AM so I can complete a goal.
