When there's two top-end players in a draft the 2nd pick is really probably the best spot to be for a GM. There's no possibility of blame when it's only two clear-cut picks. If Shero takes one guy and the other one turns out to be much better then he looks like a giant dingus.

I can agree with you on this on principle. It takes stress out of the decision for sure. Though in terms of whether fans can blame you or not, ask Ron Hextall about fan opinions on taking Nolan Patrick. Fans will always find a reason to blame you if things don't work out, regardless of whether in a vacuum it was a no brainer or not. It's sort of like you guys and Ho-Sang. 10/10 you still probably should have still taken him.

He was (frank)ing a top 5 center in the league and surrounded by poop on skates for most of his time there.

It was such a tiny subset of Islander fans that actually didn't like him and/or blamed him for the team never really taking the next step. Anyone with a half-functioning brain knew that it was Snow's shenanigans that resulted in being mediocre, at best.

Those people are typically the minority though. People that just can't handle the reality that not every draft is going to produce a 2nd overall pick like Malkin/Seguin/etc...

I'm shocked you didn't ask me which center was he (frank)ing...

Didn't feel like changing the way I wrote it

There's gotta be a little conflict in David Backes mind right now, he spilled blood and guts for that franchise

Was it Getzlaf that leveled him and said "wakey wakey Backes"?

Edit: It was Duncan Keith.

Yeah, just reading it. Apparently Keith said it after Seabrook destroyed him.
