It might be better for the Devils to draft Kakko so when they pick Lafrenière in 2020 they won't have too many centers.

Yeah not amazing, but he needs time to get going with people. He produced with Caufield and Zegras because he played consistently with them and on an even rotation. Here he's with Kane and JVR one minute, on the 4th line the next, and sitting the one after. Hard to get going like that.

For sure he's been bounced around, meanwhile Kakko is getting steady top minutes.

I could just as easily say that Nico is better by the eye test in that he always makes the right play. He never turns over the puck and always makes the smart pass while it's there and is always on defense. Petterson, as a dynamic offensive player, is prone to defensive lapses and may tend to turn over the puck.

See how that works? You can't say one great player is better than another just because they play well. Of course they do. Stats come into it, too.

You didn't watch Peterssen, the guy was defensibly responsible.

Same as everyone knew on draft day and for about a week preceding: Makar.

You're probably right, but the main point was that his reasoning of "Petterson is better because eye test. He scores on more chances" is not enough to make a definitive statement about the players as a whole. Petterson is probably a better offensive player, but Nico is probably better defensively. Even there though, the difference is so small that the "eye test" is just not enough.

It's possible, but he'll need to play for a bit more to make me believe

I'm not saying Petey can't play defense, but Nico's defensive capabilities are up there with other star centers. The Bergeron comparison is not that far of a reach.

Both are great young centers, no question, at this point I’d definitely go with Pettersson first overall in a redraft though. Patrick wouldn’t even be top four lol, sorry about your lucky Philly

Pettersson
Hischier
Heiskanen
Makar
Patrick

Still pretty early to predict who will become the greatest of this bunch, but Pettersson was an offensive force. Nico is a special player with a better 200' game, but Pettersson is a scoring machine. I agree with your order, and I am not upset, just relieved we did not take Patrick!!!!

Now lets get Hughes and have a dynamic duo down the middle, with Zajac playing what he was always meant to play. 3C, great faceoff, shutdown.

Who are your favorite UFA candidates for our RW deficit?
Eberle, Doonskoi, Zuccerrello, Simmonds, Connolly, Chiasson could all be potential #2 RW's for the Devs.

Kakko is playing on a team that isnt icing a single NHL forward. Meanwhile Hughes is playing on a U.S.A. team that brought an incredibly competitive roster. Anyone reading into the fact that an 18 year old is playing behind Jack Eichel and Dylan Larkin on the depth chart needs to bring their expectations in line with the real world and not NHL 19.

Cool. Lafreniere is a winger, though.

I can definitely get on board with your line of thinking. I just take issue with saying Nico will probably be the better two way player. Pettersson has the kind of drive and the smarts that might get him some selke votes down the line, same as Nico.

Impressive.

I’m tempted to ask about the loss... but a little scared.
