The dude coached some of the best D in the NHL in Nashville. Did Weber/Subban, Ellis, Josi, Ekholm, etc just make up for his lack of coaching with talent that much? - JVince11
I guess we have to hope that Housley was confusing Smith's message. I'm not sure there's much to suggest Smith did a good job with Pilut - or the others for that matter - jcragcrumple

Hard to find centers, that would ease Casey in. Or move Casey to a wing.
This list simply states current UFAs and my opinion on Realistically Signing them to smart contracts at current market value using signing bonuses to lure them as well as make them attractive if need be to cash/strapped teams.

2018-19 cap hit: $3,750,000
Not surprisingly, Lee’s production shrunk with John Tavares gone, but Lee still led the Islanders with 28 goals. He’s the captain and a beloved part of the team. It would be a massive upset if he’s wearing a different uniform next October.

MICHEAL FERLAND, LW, 27
2018-19 cap hit: $1,750,000
Offers size, grit and goal-scoring in a throwback power-forward mold. Any team could use that. Ferland, though, is perpetually nicked up. He plays a style that taxes his body – as we’ve seen with the likes of Wayne Simmonds and David Backes once they reached their 30s – so a long-term contract would carry risk.

BROCK NELSON, C, 27
2018-19 cap hit: $4,250,000
Nelson can play center or the wing in the middle six and brings decent goal-scoring skills. The Isles lost one of their top-three pivots last summer and likely don’t want that happening again, so Nelson is a strong candidate to re-sign.

MATS ZUCCARELLO, RW, 31
2018-19 cap hit: $4,500,000
Not an elite player but a true catalyst. Acquiring him changed the Dallas Stars’ identity as a supposed one-line team. Given his age, he isn’t looking at a max-term deal, but he’s likely played his way into a raise.

2018-19 cap hit: $1,150,000
Bludgeoning forechecker delivered serious gravy with a 14-goal season. He deserves to remain a Jet, but they have so many big-star RFAs to worry about that he’s a luxury at this point. May have to get his raise elsewhere.
Sign Vanek to a 1 or 2 yr deal , this helps us short term and provides depth

Colin Miller is being shopped around the league, according to multiple sources.
Miller dealt with injuries this past season and spent time in coach Gerard Gallant's doghouse after he had a breakout effort in 2017-18 with 10 goals and 41 points in 82 games. He skated in 65 contests in 2018-19 and he posted 29 points. The Golden Knights want to cut some salary and Miller's name has come up frequently. He has three more seasons left on his contract with a cap hit of $3.875 million per year. He has a modified no-trade clause after the 2019-20 campaign.
