What temp did you cook at? Did you use the 3-2-1 method? How is your smoker at maintaining a specific temerature?

It's quite the art. My first attempt at rib was just OK, then I gradually improved to the point now where I can make ribs pretty much perfectly every time. The tough one for me is still a brisket. I smoke it at 230F and a 7 lb point takes 15 plus hours. Enjoy it, it's a fun hobby with delicious results.

I don’t get why anyone would want us drafting a forward #3 overall.

We already have 4 PROVEN top 6 caliber forwards. We already have a true 1C and 2C, not to mention arguably the best winger in the NHL.

How many PROVEN top pairing defenseman do we have?

You could argue we have none

Byram is the obvious choice, we need to upgrade the defense and add a player that projects as a top pairing Dman before we add another forward.

Not even debatable if you ask me.

- SimpleJack

Agree on the no proven defensemen yet. Idk how many pan out and reach their ceilings. I definitely have crossed fingers. But personally, I'm leaning towards a center. Toews had an awesome bounce back year, but how long is that play going to stay at the top? I love Strome, but I'm not calling him a true center. He's got a few seasons to go before he earns that.

I'm hesitant to make that reccomendation because I use a Komodo a Broil King Keg 5000, it's a smoker, grill and pizza oven in one. While it does a pretty good job when I smoke food I don't get the same bark on a brisket or pork butt that a real smoker would provide. There is inherent moisture when you use a Komodo that a real smoker doesn't have. From what I have read it's easier to regulate the heat in a Komodo and it is multifunctional but a smoker where there is a seperation of the fuel and the cook area makes the best BBQ. Ogi may be able to make a recommendation.

For those who had questions about Teuvo Teravainen's compete level in the past, well, he essentially confirmed the rumours himself yesterday.

Said yesterday that when he arrived in Raleigh, he would have spurts where he and Brind'amour would "have a little talk" when Rod thought he wasn't working hard enough. Said Rod really helped him in the beginning, and that's a big part of why they didn't have to have one of those talks this year.

Congratulations on a good season, Bingo. Can they improve upon it going forward - or have they "topped out"?

On Teravainen - IIRC, in addition to the compete level, it was the "off ice" and off season commitment that was an issue here. Presumably that has been cleared up, too...?

Blackhawk Up and Second City Hockey both had articles today about Anisimov's future with the team and each stating that he should be traded. Both articles also consider Kampf as the prime candidate to replace Anisimov as 3C as well as prospects like Kurashev (with Highmore as the 4C to replace Kampf in that spot as he moves up to 3C). Kurashev or even Entwistle are popular dark horses but still long shots to make the team and are best playing top 6 in Rockford for a year first.

While I am not opposed to trading Anisimov, he brings a lot more to the table as a 3C than Kampf does. Promoting Kampf up to 3C dilutes the forward depth by having the bottom 6 anchored by two 4Cs rather than a bonafide 3C and 4C on each respective line. IMO, if Anisimov is traded, Bowman needs to have another transaction in the works to fill the 3C spot; otherwise, just retain him.

- AEL_Fox

I think Anisimov goes in July. That's my opinion.

Kurashev was a guy I mentioned yesterday and in the past of someone that could play a role next year in Chicago.

I don't think you swap AA for a rookie or Kampf even. More centre depth is needed if AA goes.

If they can't get anything of value for AA put him at LW. He is a responsible player who doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

No Karlsson or Hertl for the Sharks tonight. This could be the end of San Jose this year.
- DarthKane

Too bad for the Sharks. Their run of puck luck is over as they really were handed that gift vs Vegas along with the no-call hand pass.

I've been anti Doug Wilson ever since he offer sheeted Hjalmarsson and Niemi !!

I'm actually rooting for the Blues because they were my pick back in October. Their GM and management team had a GREAT and gutsy off season with the FA acquisitions and trades. (ROR, Bozak, Maroon, Parron, etc)

Hopefully Bowman and company learned that adding quality depth gets you further along than adding 1 superstar.

No to Panarin.....YES to qualty free agents like a Tanev, a trade for Chabot/Nurse type, and a #3 pick of a future star Center.

I'd love to see the Blues beat the Bruins as well. They have earned it !

It depends on what you are looking for and how hands on you want to be and how much stuff you want to cook at once.

Pellet Smokers like the Traegers are easy to set up, and very easy to use. Set and forget them, they maintain temps and the only thing you need to worry about is making sure the pellets don't run out. Downside is that they can get expensive and the models on the cheaper end of the scale have somewhat limited cook space.

A "bullet" smoker like the Weber Smoky Mountain, takes a little longer to master the use of and how to maintain temps on it, but once you do it produces amazing results for things like briskets, chicken, turkeys and fish. Depending on which size you get (18" or 22") will determine how many racks of ribs you can effectively do at once. These are strictly charcoal/wood burning so getting them at a consistent temp takes practice and patience. A bullet smoker will cost less than the smaller and lower end Traegers.

Offset smokers, which are what many competition cookers use are considered by many to be the "best". they come in many sizes and price ranges. Most are charcoal/wood based but many have added features to be hybrids of pellet and charcoal. There is also a learning curve with these as the heat source is to one side, so one side of the smoker box is much hotter than then other and must be compensated for.

Chabot is an untouchable. The Hawks don't have the assets to acquire a player like him in trade. But it sure would be nice seeing him on the blueline.

Also an option.

He's not a bad player... just doesn't fit anymore in Chicago IMO.

He scored a nice goal today off the wing on that football field the Euros play on.

I can see him in Ottawa, Jersey or Arizona.

I like the idea of adding Eakin, but I wonder if Vegas would prefer to get players back that they could immediately plug into their lineup as opposed to prospects/picks. If that is the case, who could we send them?
Any thoughts on going after Cedric Paquette? Might he project as a 3C or is he better suited on the 4th line?

I would guess the on/off ice stuff probably goes hand in hand.

And yes, this team is only going to get better. The young guys coming up are probably better RIGHT NOW than some of the veteran depth guys they had on the roster all season.

That, and Waddell confirmed today that the Hurricanes do not have an internal budget number for player salaries next season, which is new territory for them I thing. Dundon says they'll spend whatever they need to spend to make the team better.

Vegas has serious cap problems. If they trade someone like Eakin making something like 3.85M they would not want comparable salary back. They would probably expect someone on a ELC that would net them 3M in cap space or draft picks. Maybe Hayden or one of Forsling/Koekkoek/Dahlstrom would be a trade candidate.

Any player coming back would have to be at a minimum contract, as they are already at the cap with only 19 players signed (and one goalie)

Well he must have changed something up in his summer fitnesses routine, if I remember right he weighed somewhere around 165 - 170lbs, not the 190 he’s listed at now.

I've always liked Paquette and his style of play. IIRC, though, Elbows or someone else pointed out that his advanced stats don't bear out an effective checking forward because he allows a ton of shots on goal. Overall, though, could still be an option worth considering if he can shore that up and have complementary linemates.

Either way, I believe Paquette tops out as a 4th liner similar to Kampf. If either play above the 4th, then the team is lacking in forward depth. Paquette would be a nice add, tbh, if Tanev signs elsewhere. Paquette with Kampf and Caggiula is appealing.

All you really need is a steel trash can and a hot plate to make good smoke. The rest is how you manage the heat and smoke.
- Ogilthorpe2

My daughter exactly that called the Orion Cooker.
I resisted and was going to return it but she guilted me and I am glad she did.

It looks like a cylinder with a donut for charcoal on the bottom and open Organ grinder's monkey hat on top fo charcoal and their is room for chips inside around the apple cider vinegar and you can string 9 racks on ribs and they fall off the bone quickly.
But it make incredible Boston Butt that I pull and make a version of BBQ similar to the place off Thattcher Woods near Kiddieland on North ave 1621 Thatcher rd), that is now out in Schaumburgish area between Alqonquin road east of the 294 (885 Algonquin Rd., Rolling Meadows,Il)

I pull it and add sautéed onion red yellow peppers and make a oil based Cole slaw, but the Salt Lick version from outside Austin Texas)with simple Kraft BBQ.

Everyone whom tries it thinks it better than any restaurant pulled pork, but mine is free so that might be why it gets complimented...

[quote=walleyeb1]Pronman’s latest 2019 NHL Draft Board: Top 107 prospects is out on The Athletic. I cut it off where he shifted to High-end/very good bubble. Some surprises in there for me.

There shouldn't be many surprises go back and look how poorly his rankings need up selection-wise, especialy Blue Bokk, who he had listed in the second tier or Matt Tkachuk who was NOT a true good player in the high teens...

as much as I think Corey is joke, he at least throws up is opinions...

The Hawks have 0 elite forward prospects. Maybe a few that could be borderline top 6. If there is a forward that projects to be a #1 center take him.

They need help on D yes but they spent a lot of draft capital on Joki, Beaudin, Mitchell, and Boqvist. 2/4 should be top pairing guys if all goes well. That is the entire point of drafting them.

If Bryam is a sure fire #1 guy in a year then yes consider taking him...but I have not read anything that says he is that good. If he was that good then there would be more talk of him going ahead of Hughes and/or Kakko.
