Do you get perturbed when elitist Americans don't pronounce it Gwelph?

If you question his talent I'd question how much you've watched him play. Plenty of folks in Idaho who couldn't tell the difference of a Russet Potato from a Yukon.

Slice it anyway you want. Safe picks in drafts have not panned out and home run types have not as well. I’ll be more specific, I believe the flyers need to target skill and skating ability above all else because I believe they lack it throughout the organization. Enter newhook. Home run, double, whatever you call it

Who are the prospects that may be at 11 that you are highest in?

- Just5

Fair enough and well said.

If one of Zegras, Boldy or Caufield slip I'm nabbing them, preferably Zegras or Caufield.

Otherwise I like Krebs. A sleeper I'm coming around to though is Lavoie, his stock is going up.

I'd say Caufield is that dynamic. Typically elite goal scoring at that level does translate, and even with outliers occurring it's a chance I'd take. If people are hung up on the size factor they are living in the past imo. Production translates.

I don't have a great read on what Fletcher will do but my best guess would be he used the pick on one of those patented 200 ft players. I also would not be surprised if he ships it for a current NHL player.

Gut feeling says it’s Newhook, Soderstrom or traded for immediate help while Giroux and Voracek are still productive.

I'm of the belief that to an extent, a player can be coached and developed into a better 200 foot player. Characteristics of a 200 foot player should be the tiebreaker between two players equally talented but should not rank a lesser talented player higher than a player with more raw skill.

I like Turoctte but feel he might go higher then expected. Maybe even 3 to Chicago or 6 to Detroit

Caufield is likely gone. I do like Boldy. I haven’t read up too much on the d prospects.

Good stuff, Bill Meltz!!

That Hoyda, Wensink fight was awesome! They even threw em when the linesmen were grabbing them to stop it. Ah, those were the days when men were men, and hockey had it all! Reminds me of the tilts between my older brother and I when we were teenagers, and my Dad referee’d til we were spent!! Keep up the great offseason work, Bill!!👍

It is sad that Hoyda died prematurely.

My main memory of him was a breakaway he had in a road game and he hit the corner.......where the zamboni comes out. It didn't even appear as though he lost control of the puck nor was he being checked from behind. That is why it stood out in my memory.

I was at that Game 3 in '97. Guest of a Ranger fan friend. When E stripped Messier to score the EN goal the guy I was with got up to leave. I said, "Wait! It's not over." He said, "It's over." And we left. I think I'm probably lucky he didn't smack me. There were only 38 secs left.

Did Hart get pulled in the third just to get Blackwood some action today?

Sounded like it. Could someone provide a little analysis on Carter's performance. I only saw parts of GB game. Not much to watch.

Tested several times in the second period, not much in 1st or his half of the 3rd period. Made the routine saves without turning any into adventures. On his angles, calm. Basically, all you could ask.

Liking prospect victor soderstrom who may or may not be there at 11. Ultra competitive puck moving dman. Little undersized but supposed to be a complete package

Need to keep this pick

Yes Lavoie is ranked inside the Top 15 in a few rankings. Don’t know much about him.

If we're still trying to win around G and Jake I have to say at this point I'm open to moving the pick. Or at least no long term prospects, which I kind of feel like most of the D men are going to be.

If they want to make a move to improve this team with a RH D or a 2C right now I would imagine that this pick will be involved.

Simply being a proponent of "swinging for the fences" without adding specificity or qualifying the statement is frankly silly.

For one it isn't a sustainable methodology to acquiring enough talent to have a winning hockey club. The nature of the sport now is you need good players across the board. How has Edmonton looked of late?

Are we talking about a player who is 20%/10%/70% 1st line 2nd/3rd line Bust, if so no way in hell. Or are we talking about 20%/40%/40% if so you have my attention. But that player tends to be in the top 5.

Couturier, Giroux, Konecny, Lindblom, Provorov, Farabee, Carter, Richards all drafted and homegrown productive players none in the mold of "swing for the fences"

Zacha and Dal Colle were recent "swing for the fences" type players. How are they looking relative to those drafted around them?

Peyton Krebs is by most accounts projected as safe bet to be a second or third line player and a responsible centreman at that, much needed in today's NHL. I'll take that projection over a guy with a good chance to still be stuck in Lehigh Valley in five years.

- AltScoob

Talking about taking the highest skill/talent player available with the intangible qualities you're looking for, irrespective of NHL-readiness, size, pedigree, etc.

Zacha and Dal Colle were both safe picks. NHL-ready, high-floor, big-bodies.

Giroux was a pure home run swing.

What you say is true however I’d still rather keep the pick. I like the prospects. We aren’t stocked with high end prospects. We will get one here. I have a hard time putting all the eggs in the go for a cup around G and Jake basket.
