Lol. Ya a 47 goal scorer screwed the leafs
Lol
Some of the post on here are a joke.
Its funny you guys talk about the leafs so much.
Next year the cap will be tight.
After that, not so much.
The leafs have 3 great centers two of which are superstars, they have a great goalie and a great dman with some young D and forward talent coming up.
Theyll be fine after next year.

They lost to a team that’s in the Finals. Leafs had more wins against the Bruins than the Jackets and Canes did combined...
- Steven_Seagull

Not exactly the hardest path to the finals. The top team in the league and the defending champs were both eliminated in the first round. Oh, so was that team called the Penguins who might have quite a bit of talent.

I don't think you're going to respect the Hurricanes next year because they lost to the Bruins even with their top goalie out.

We went and seen John Wicke . The wife likes action movies. It was as believable as Donnie getting into a dust up with Kassian.

Gillis was a tool. JB's added some nice pieces but he's on the clock now as well.
- VanHockeyGuy

Gillis certainly had his faults but he had way more success at adding depth than Benning has. Lapierre, Higgins, Malhotra, Torres, Hamhuis, etc. were all a big part of the success.

He was also gifted a team which was just about to peak, and a good coach in place. He didn't set the table.

Minor details

Yeah it helps when you are playing for the cup how many better players are willing to sign with your team.

I don’t think that’s debatable. His depth acquisitions certainly moved the team forward though.

Anyone outside of the core is a possibility, maybe Kadri and definitely Gardiner. That’s some good players that will have to be replaced with kids on league minimum contracts. I don’t know anything about your farm system, other than they are still playing, but you will need to get lucky with a couple of them.

Their leading scorer in the regular season wasn’t some AHL scrub that couldn’t make it in the NHL, like the Comets. It’s a 21 year old 2nd round pick. Like what we hope Kole Lind will be this coming season...

Gillis was way more aggressive, there's no doubt about that.

I think he would have torn down the roster more aggressively as well, that's in his nature.

Canucks actual leading prospects were leading in the Calder race and the other was playing in Michigan in the NCAA

Benning was aggressive if stories are true. He went after ROR but was turned down with his offer. He also wanted Subban Nylander and the first over all in the Sam Reinhart draft.

I think the overall message is they lost, doesn’t matter that the Bruins are going to the finals, there are no moral victories for getting bounced in the first round, regardless if it was the Bruins or the University of Calgary Women’s team.

No moral victories for a better regular season “we did better than who’s who”.

I seem to remember when we were beaten by the Cup Champs Chicago and LA in the first and second rounds it didn't matter we were losers according to the Leaf fans . Tables have turned.

IMO aggressive is making the move, not wanting to.

You need to have the bullets in the chamber . Gillis used up all the ammo

I am sure Edler without a NTC or Kesler without one would have brought back a nice return

Hamhuis Bieksa some more NTCs that limited trading
