Same in reverse. Moving Russell opens a spot in the top-6 for either a prospect or a new addition (I'd kill for Gudas, but that's unlikely) and secures some bottom-6 speed. Trade Benning for Brown, do a couple of my other trades and maybe sign Nemeth and we'll be looking fresh. - MaximumBone
I filed the paperwork. Let’s do this. |

Nothing to it. Aside from the fact that rumors around this time of year almost never actualize, the idea behind it is even pretty flawed. The principle behind it only makes any sense if the 2.7mil in cap space they save for one year ends up being the difference between signing a guy like Nyquist or not and that Holland believes this is the only way to do it- which, after two weeks on the job, he shouldn't think. - MaximumBone

Oiler Nation just tweeted a trade scenario being talked about in Toronto.
Edmonton - W.Nylander
Toronto - D.Nurse, M.Lucic and 2nd in 2020
I think I would be all over that |

Replace Nurse with Klefbom and I'd do that.
Rather trade Klefbom than Nurse at this point. |

Sell high on Nurse ? - Reveen.
Except I don't think this will be the highest Nurse will reach. I think he has got more to show. If he can just improve his defensive awareness some more (which I don't think is out of the question), he can be a bonafide top 2 defender.
His advanced numbers seemed to dip this season, but with further examination, this may be due to how he spent a good chunk of his time with Russell. He also averaged 23 minutes a game this season. Pretty sure I'm not the only remembering how he easily hit 25-27+ minutes in a good amount of games this season.
I'd also like to bring up the point that Klefobm has yet to crack the 40 point barrier while Nurse has. Before you say that Nurse was given a lot of time on the PP this season, most of his points (31/41) came from even strength. If you compare this to Klefbom's highest point season (38), a big chunk of his points came from the PP (16/38). Both played a full 82 game season btw.
Klefbom may get the edge defensively, but in terms of offense, Nurse wins. Even by the eye test, Nurse has more tools to use to push offense and he uses that. If he can just work on analyzing situations and his response a bit better (which he has made strides in already), he will be better than Klefbom.
Nurse has continually improved each year, whereas Klefbom has had ups and downs.
Nurse has also proven to not be a liability in terms of health whereas Klefbom continually runs into injury problems. Klefbom's contract is pretty good though. |

Why? Two legitimate top-6 forwards that are actually available and won't cost the moon and you're so picky as to consistently say no. I don't understand. |

I don’t see the Leafs taking on the Lucic contract though. |

Since March 2017, Nurse is 10th on the list of EV production among all Dmen. At age 24; before his prime. Take it for what it's worth but we constantly fawn over many of the names below him on that list and it's not because they're substantially better at defending than Nurse. He has his flaws but he also hasn't played 300 NHL games, has plenty of room to grow and has given us no reason to believe he won't do just that (pretty linear development so far). |

Why would Toronto do that? They can't afford Lucic's dead weight any more than we can. If they're trading Willy, it's to free cap space to sign Marner, Johnsson and Kapanen with. |

Only way I see that work is if we retain cap and then they can do the same and move Lucic along to the next team |

While I won't contest that Klefbom is the better Dman right now, I'm not convinced that that will be the case in 2 years. Given another couple years of what has been steady progress for Nurse, he could very well be one of those elusive top pairing guys we've so desperately prayed for. |

Apparently Howson will be sticking around. Hopefully Bill Scott can (frank) off, too. Clearly not a good cap manager. |

They all can go....clearly it hasn’t worked out but maybe Holland doesn’t want to do it all in one off season on top of trying to fix the roster

Regardless of my stance on his player moves, I definitely trust him to build an organization. While I'd love to see Nelson be hired, I get the feeling we'll be seeing Burke, Tippett and a new AGM (maybe from Detroit) coming in before the draft. No issue with any of those hirings. |

I really want to see Schwartz gone....I wouldn’t object to Gretzky looking after the amateur side of things.....Nelson would be solid but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was Tippett

You guys don't need to trade either of them just provide them with the D partners so they can succeed. Injuries on D literally killed the Oil this year. Put a better D in fornt of Koskinen and you'll be there. |

Yeah, I'd rather keep both but if the discussion is on which I'd rather move, it's Klefbom. The further along we get, the more I see that he shares a lot of qualities with Edler: big frame, Swedish, not very physical, boneheaded at times, big shot, solid skater with good edges, injury issues, solid offense but not elite, etc. A quality #3 that can play up, but gets a bit over-exposed. |

Past 3 seasons Klefbom has missed 9 more games than Russell. Russell is considered a warrior and Klefbom a China doll. How does that make sense? |
