I can fully sign on to Barrie for Nylander straight up and I'm seemingly one of the few Avs fans who doesn't flat out despise TB4 for his near 60 points and 15 goals a season. There's a non-zero chance of it happening, they've certainly discussed that very deal in the past. I do worry about the room effect of MacK's best friend and one of the most popular guys among his teammates leaving. Avs fans constantly yelling "trade him" aren't usually considering that.

The "trade Barrie" rumours have been around for years it seems. I believe Sakic when he says that he wants to make a hockey trade. So he isn't giving him away. Like Chevy in Winnipeg.
He's not going to just give Trouba away. Alot of fans think that just because a player only has a year left on his contract means their team can make a lowball offer to get him. I'd just keep the player for another playoff run and then let him walk if I'm being offered crap. That's what Columbus did with Bob and Panarin. Barrie is a luxury for Colorado and Nylander is a luxury for Toronto.
GMs always think they can get more in return for a player and keep him too long. I believe the time to trade Nylander was last summer. Should the Avs have traded Barrie then? I don't believe so. A Nylander/Barrie trade straight up makes sense right now though. Helps both teams now and in the future.
A GM can't worry about his franchise players' feelings being hurt. It's a business. Nate is a big boy he'll get over it. The Avs window to win is right now and Nate is in his prime. He'll be on board if Sakic can make the team better. Adding Nylander and Makar certainly does that.
Back in 1996, the Red Wings traded Paul Coffey with Keith Primeau to acquire Brendan Shanahan. Coffey was one of Yzerman's buddies on the team. The Red Wings won the Cup in 1997 and 1998 as well as 2002 with Shanny playing a key role. I don't think Yzerman regrets the Red Wings making that trade.
