I know Darcy tried pretty hard to sign him back in 2012.

He's spoken about it, but you need to consider all of the conditions an offer sheet scenario brings, which is kind of the reason why they're extremely rare. Botts addressed it as something he'd always look into, but it always needs to make sense. For the club and the player.

We need to see much more of it, for sure. For all caliber of guys, not just the Shea Webers.

Dahlin can't be re-signed until 7/1/20

I think all GM's know they have to say they'd consider it. It's easy to argue that the lack of offer sheets is perilously close to collusion.

Just flingin' poop..

But one could surmise that Eberle would be interested in the Sabres now, and could make for some nice middle 6 RW depth. 4x4 would be nice.

Gotcha, thank you.

I would love this idea. I think whoever Ralphie picks as his top assistant could be indicative as to what happens down the road. I really hope he hires a younger guy that he can groom.

Without a doubt. I've been saying, there should be some incentives to drive offer sheeting. NHL could be interested, simply for the entertainment value, and the PA should be head over heels to drive up contract costs.

I don't know that he tried OSing Parise. I DO know that he tried signing him as a UFA 5 years later.

Using Evolving Hockey's projected contract matrix, Eberle's highest probably contract is 7x6M. That's gonna be a no from me, dawg.

However, a 4 year deal would look something like 4x5.2

For a 50-60 point guy (had a down year this year, needs to be considered), 5.2 isn't a terrible price at the term. He plays a style that should be sustainable for the next 5-6 years. But he could also be on the decline. Not that Botts signed Okposo, but hopefully he's a lesson for players showing a bit of a decline walking into UFA.

That's the "Well, I don't really want to be here anymore" or the "Pay me more or I'm going somewhere else" contract.

Lou was stingy, and Zach wanted to go to Minnesota.

Reminiscent of Mark Stone. For other reasons.

I know we’re going to work hard through the summer to add some pieces and to make some adjustments in the roster.

The time frame doesn’t make sense

2007 you let both captains walk because of “money” only reason why you match the Vanek contract was so the fans wouldn’t completely leave

But your going to pay Zach Parise ok sure ..

2011 it was Brad Richards

The year after that I remember us trying to sign Zach Parise because our leverage was Drew Stafford and their friendship

Vegas has 5M in cap space (includes LTIR of Clarkson)

Need to sign:

3 RFA forwards, including Wild Bill
1 defenseman
1 rfa backup goalie

Karlsson is projected at around 6-6.5M

Most of their 4th line needs to be settled out somehow.

There's no way the escape the off season without a trade. Bill Karlsson would be a wonderful snag for 2C, and if you can send Risto + for Colin Miller, I think you're in the black.

I also feel like they'd rather shed a winger's salary, like Tuch or more likely Reilly Smith, instead of trading Bill.

That'd be hot as (frank). After that trade, our assets to trade for a 2C might be extremely limited and would have to dig into futures.

But as Ralphie said, they will be "adding pieces and making adjustments to the roster."

Should be another fun summer.

GMs don't do it, and when they do, the team matches. The last one was 12 years ago

We might as well talk about which current NHL forward will switch to defense and make an all star game, because that happens with more frequency than successful offer sheets

- jcragcrumple

Was Shea Weber that long ago?

-GM needs to decide if the picks match or are less than the player's value.
-Player needs to sign the offer sheet
-Offer sheeting team needs to consider whether the opposing team can or will match
-Player can't ruin cap structure

And finally

-God forbid you make enemies.

99/100 times, the opposing team will just match anything reasonable, and if they say 'it's too much' then there's a pretty damn good chance that player will be harming you more than helping.

Shea Weber has 6 more years at 7.8M, and that contract was done in the circumvention era. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll come down with a skin condition in 23-24.

- TheSabresTaco

This.

If you really want a player that is an RFA, you will need to offer above, often well above, market value. Otherwise, you're simply doing another team's negotiating for them.

That's why I think the blame on Regier for Vanek's offer sheet was misplaced. Edmonton wasn't going to make an offer that they weren't willing to pay him themselves. The move was not simply just to screw Buffalo over in a cap situation. They offered Vanek over and above market value because they wanted him, and that's what it possibly was going to take to make Buffalo walk away (obviously it wasn't).

Sorry for ruining HB for you. I honestly thought that it was ruined after the 10 game win streak.
