“Everybody has their own technical skills if they’re a coach at that level in the world. But to me the one thing that stood out was leadership. Once he became a head coach, it was his demeanor. You knew who was in charge of the room. You knew who was in charge of the medical and training staff. He was the guy, and that was really impressive to see that.”

Housley wasn't even capable of dreaming of this scenario.

My source is in off season training, seeing how he definitely has a roster spot on the Sabres next year, so nothing that hasn’t already been shared.

Hbu, any other general comments you feel like tossing in?

I'm not smart or an executive but, I would lock up Dahlin before we offer sheet anyone, so we don't get screwed over by another team.

Our GM doesn't strike me as the type to offer sheet

GMs don't do it, and when they do, the team matches. The last one was 12 years ago

We might as well talk about which current NHL forward will switch to defense and make an all star game, because that happens with more frequency than successful offer sheets

He's spoken about it, but you need to consider all of the conditions an offer sheet scenario brings, which is kind of the reason why they're extremely rare. Botts addressed it as something he'd always look into, but it always needs to make sense. For the club and the player.

We need to see much more of it, for sure. For all caliber of guys, not just the Shea Webers.

Dahlin can't be re-signed until 7/1/20

-GM needs to decide if the picks match or are less than the player's value.
-Player needs to sign the offer sheet
-Offer sheeting team needs to consider whether the opposing team can or will match
-Player can't ruin cap structure

And finally

-God forbid you make enemies.

99/100 times, the opposing team will just match anything reasonable, and if they say 'it's too much' then there's a pretty damn good chance that player will be harming you more than helping.

Shea Weber has 6 more years at 7.8M, and that contract was done in the circumvention era. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll come down with a skin condition in 23-24.
