Dude, have you been watching San Jose?
I dislike Boston as much as the next guy but they have nothing on San Jose in these playoffs. - GreatGigInTheSky

you aren't suggesting that the officiating has been tilted in San Jose's favor are you?
really? you want to go there?

Uh yeah I am very willing to go there. Have you seen what’s going on with San Jose? |

its completely fair to say that the Sharks have had the benefit of some calls that had huge individual effects.. no question.
difference is the Bruins have benefited from "missed calls" and inconsistent judgements ... the douchebaggery which they were not adequately penalized for is different than the opportunities given to the Sharks.
no Bruins fan would ever admit it ... but they simply cannot deny that their players have consistently been given the benefit of the doubt, where others received much worse, much more consequently penalties.
if you want a laugh, go back and listen to the Bruins coverage after Marc Savard was hit by Matt Cooke or when Neil kneed Marchand in the head, and when Thornton attacks Orpik
then go listen to the coverage after McAvoy's hit on Anderson.
the hypocrisy that unites us all. |

I don't know... I personally don't equate crappy calls (San Jose benefits) with ignore or encouraged douchebaggery (Bruins #1 poster boy)...
I find it interesting how a team that's relatively heavily penalized in the regular season instantly changes into the snow white from the officials perspective, despite countless video clips clearly illustrating the exact opposite?
I guess I'm just naive |

Your argument was that the Bruins have benefited from missed calls whereas with the Sharks it’s been bad calls that they benefited from. I wasn’t aware someone called that hand pass legal. Here I was thinking it was missed. |

Did you read the Yost article.
He really only has one basic point to make but he is dead on and it is about time someone called out the league on this.
It especially hurts as a Leafs fan. They built a team with virtually no physical presence. They publicly came out and said that their powerplay would be their response and then they were given somewhere near the fewest in the league.
Truth is, most games are going to end up within a penalty or two difference for either team, at most.
Boston is one of the teams that has figured that out. Might as well play on the edge all the time when you know that at some point 1) You aren't going to be penalized anymore and 2) The other team will have a bunch of make-up calls against them anyway.
Boston is the best team in the league right now because their special teams are better than everyone else's, so as long as the penalties are close, they'll win.

its not an argument, I fully recognize that no Bruin fan, whether reasonable or complete Richard is going to acknowledge bias in officiating. Not Leaf would do the same - IF they were in the same situation.
what I'm identifying is a difference between and obvious missed call (such as the hand pass in the Sharks-Blues game) which had a direct and almost immediate impact
versus
a set of ignored infractions on the part of the officials (can't say they missed them because the officials were queried about them and suggested that they weren't penalties in their opinion after the fact)... the knee by Debrusk, the cross check by Kuraly on Muzzin, the Chara cowardly cheap shot on Tavares in the scrum, the Chara jump and elbow on Muzzin... and I won't even reference Marchand's garbage.
I do find it curious that Kadri suspension for 3-5 games for a head shot/cross check was handed out so generously ... but it took a day and half for the league to actually issue a statement... probably because they knew their was mitigating circumstances.
I'm not going to give you the commentary that any of these infractions being properly called would have changed the outcome of the series, I leave that up to individuals to judge for themselves.
But you simply cannot ignore the fact that there multiple "dangerous hit" type infractions that were not met with appropriate penalties or suspension. To say the Bruins haven't benefited from shyte/uneven/unbalanced or just plain crap officiating would be dumb.
What was Marchand attempting to do with his stick wrapped around Williams neck - or was that just a "hockey play"?

yup - nicely stated.
the question to the NHL league offices needs to be... are the rules the same in the regular season? and the playoffs? why are they different?

I think a better scenario is to look at the blatant miscalls and get to the bottom of what happened. When the Commissioner of the League has to call teams and apologize for poor officiating then that league is in crisis. |

He apologized to vegas. Once.
I doubt he does it again.
He didn't call Colorado for the goal taken away or the missed trip on Mackinnon.
You won't see him call St-Louis for the handpass. |

Muzzin was one of the leafs players that stepped up in the playoffs. He simply played great.
It was a good trade for the leafs.
