Quantity for quality is rarely a good trade off if you're the team giving up the quality. The odds are not very good that a 2nd rounder will even make the NHL, let alone have a difference making career. The difference between Kakko and Byram/Turcotte/Cozens/whomever is substantial enough that the probability of hitting on a second rounder and/or a prospect would not be enough to move me off taking Kakko. I'd love for Kakko to fall into the Hawks laps someway somehow but I think someone in NYR/NJ would have to do something really stupid for that to happen. |

Possibly. But if he's had a good relationship with the Hawks so far I wouldn't expect that to change. On the flip side I could see Mitchell being dealt for a forward prospect. - DarthKane
Mitchell's trade value is near zero given he isn't signed and will be a year away from walking. What team would take that risk |

He's actually 2 years away but your point is still valid.

Make me wonder what the Blackhawks plans are are for Forsling. - walleyeb1
My thoughts?
He is going to get traded either with a teammate or for some way to move up in the draft, but I think you don't quit on him yet.

Byram and the Giants tied 1-1 in the second. Byram with a sweet play to set up Roman. |

I didn't know this until I read it in the Hockey News:
Kappo Kakko has Celiac disease and Diabetes.
No team is trading a pick where they can select him. |

Totally with you here. I'd like to see Bowman follow the Ryan Pace model. Identify "his guy" and go get him. Stan has a wealth of D talent in the pipeline that the Rangers could use too.
Packaging the 3rd pick, a top D prospect, and either a current player or a future draft pick would be a HUGE haul for the Rangers. Landing Panarin alone for huge dollars still won't put them in the playoffs next year IMO. Panarin plus 3 players probably would and also make them stronger in the future.
But you're right, maybe they aren't that stupid. I'm just hoping they are I guess.

Do you remember a while back when Scotty Bowman stated that Forsling reminded him of a young Niklas Lidstrom ? I do.
Watch for Forsling to end up in Detroit because of Scotty's great relationship and admiration from Steve Yzerman. He might be able to convince him of his potential.
I'd actually like to keep Forsling. I like his foot speed and determination but yes he's a work in progress.

Agree. That's why they sign Dahlstrom, Keokk and Forsling. They are all tradeable just prior to the draft or in late September when lots of teams are looking to add defenceman or get under the cap. Happens every year. |

I know that you do not like baseball, Bill, but you just tossed one heck of a big breaking curve ball. Or maybe a change up masterfully disguised because no one had ever mentioned this
Would the board comment upon this especially if you are in authority. I know someone who watches the gluten and is perfectly fine nearly 60 years old. Diabetes can worsen especially if you have it at a youthful age. But an athlete who takes care of himself is at low risk regarding these issues?
Will be curious to see if Kakko moves on draftsite.com rating. |

He’s having a great game tonight, but he wasn’t impressive in game 5. |

Ah ... I remember someone saying they were at the game tonight and I thought it was you. Weren't you at a previous game then? How was his defensive play then?

I was at game 5 and his defense was great. He’s not a Hjalmarsson type of defenseman. If I had to make a comparison on the Hawks it would be Keith (not saying he will be as good as Keith). He was the Giants best defenseman and overall player that night. |

Prince Albert eliminates Vancouver in OT tonight. Dante Hannoun (all 5’6” of him) scores the winner. Too bad for the Giants and Byram. The Hawks still have 3 prospects in the Memorial Cup. |

Byram not on the ice for the OT winner (figured somebody would ask). One reporter said Byram must have played around 40 minutes (game ended in late OT #1). Probably an exaggeration but no doubt he played a lot. |

17 year old Bowen Byram won the WHL playoff scoring race. 1st defenseman to ever achieve that feat. Kid is special. #WHLGiants |

I was going to . I still take Cozens , think he could play next year on the 3rd line . Byram would be exciting till we learn he can't play NHL defense ever . I think Turcotte will be the worst pick and only taken because the PR department is running the team . Dach would be a close second to Cozens ,Dach has some great skill , Cozens has the passion and Physicality . It not a tough call in MHO |
