I’d be fine if we traded Kessel/J.Johnson packaged together and signed Nyquist and Dzingel or Ferland.

Opportunity Cost needs to be considered here.

For example, Connor Sheary’s salary turned into Jack Johnson. Even if you still move Sheary, whom else could have been paid with those funds?

Also, consider the Gudbranson trade. Tanner Pearson wasn’t the second coming of Kevin Stevens, but he wasn’t being paid for his fists like Guddy is. Whom else could have been acquired instead?

Yes, Sundqvist's 4 career points in 38 NHL games at 24 years old was an insane amount of skill to give up at that time.

Ryan Reaves actually had a higher P/60 last season than Sundqvist (1.0 vs. 0.68). Clearly, Sundqvist has a higher offensive upside, but up until 1+ year after the trade was made, Sundqvist was nothing more than an AHL tweener. Sundqvist had more upside, but hadn't shown it in his 5 years since being drafted.

And that’s fine, I’m not preventing you but I also don’t want to make the same mistake again. I don’t think taking a 2C and taking away their PP TOI and their top 6 wingers and making them a 3C is a huge recipe for success. I would much rather see how Bjugstad, Blueger, and McCann do at 3C and find a LW for Malkin that isn’t Bjugstad. I like the idea of Dzingel which is one you first mentioned I recall but I also like the idea of Nyquist

Especially since nobody is just going to take Kessel and JJ without sending salary back.

If you can prove that JJ has some weird blood disorder affected by dirty equipment, I know of one team that will.

Yeah, somehow my account got screwed up, so I gave Ek $20 so I could come back for awhile. I really tried to get back in free.

Exactly this, thank you. And if we’d needed more space, Oleksiak and his 2.1 mil could have been moved also.

The bigger issue was moving Sundquest and his what $750k cap? Then signing Sheehan and Cullen for like $3.25 combined for the 4C position.

Yeah, my bad. I mostly stopped by here today to get my daily RW reminder that it's stupid to consider trade value of core pieces no matter what the potential return, and I got sidetracked.

Maybe if you would just inform us of your own posts once in a while the response would be shorter.

We tried taking a 2C and making him a 3C and it failed. I have reasons backing up why I think it’s a failure of an idea and the only response I get is “Too wordy.”

If you don’t want to respond then don’t respond but most of your ideas lately have been bad. Bobby Ryan has good foot speed? That entire post was junk. Hornqvist to Florida makes sense? For Sceviour and a 4th? On what planet? They already have 7 guys producing at a top 6 rate and just moved out space because they might be bringing in Panarin/Bob. Petts for $1MM? 3rd line producers for $1MM? You literally back up none of arguments with any sound reasoning

Is there a realistic potential trade scenario involving a core piece that doesn’t make the team worse?

Yes, but only if it's a RyJo for Seth Jones type (i.e. premier player for premier player). Kessel for Subban, for instance, as an example (not saying do the trade). If you do it for multiple pieces, then no.

To me, blog order should be something like this: year in review (done), current events (Pens at WHC, playoffs), existing RFAs, then leading up to the draft looking at cap space, trade value, and ahead to free agency

What if it’s Kessel and a 1st for Subban with say $1.2MM retained, we move Schultz to San Jose after they lose Karlsson, we keep Petts to play with Subban and sign Nyquist to flank Malkin? Subban takes Phil’s spot on the PP so I don’t think we’d miss his PP production. Top 6 of 87, 71, 59, 19, 72, and Gus doesn’t sound terrible. If Rust excels you can always flip him and 72 to play with Bjugstad

I honestly don't have the time to consider particular pieces in such moves. I watch 90% of Pens games in their entirety, so I'm just going by what I see. Here, the Pens demise this season was all JJs fault. He contributed, but their issues are deeper IMHO.
