Not only were the Leafs picks terrible, the 2 picks they traded turned into Rakell and Gibson.

This was classic Burkie. Trade up to get a guy who was on nobodies board. I don't think Biggs or Percy ever saw a game in the NHL, which is even worse when you look at how bad the teams the Leafs were icing at the time.

Let's say the Hawks draft Byram, trade AA (for pick(s) or a prospect), acquire Frolik without giving up too much, sign Perlini, Kampf, Sikura, Forsberg, Tanev, and Kubalik to reasonable contracts.

Saad, Toews, Sikura
ADB, Strome, Kane
Kubalik, Kahun, Frolik
Caggiula, Kampf, Tanev
Perlini

Keith, Joki
Byram, Murphy
Gus, Seabs

Crow
Forsberg

PK options - Toews, Saad, Frolik, Kampf, Tanev (really helps PK).

4th line helps team D a great deal.

Frolik/Kubalik Czech Republic teammates.

Joki/Byram are green, and it may be rushing them. But you could sit them pretty often and plug in Dahlstrom. You could always add a top 4 at the TDL.

You still would have about $10 mil in cap space to trade for rentals at the TDL and then sign ADB and Strome next summer.

The Guelph Storm just won again. They are up 3-2 in the series now.

Mackenzie Entwhistle and Co. are quite the resilient bunch.

I would like you to read this and guess who it was written about:

Another scout: “He made for today’s game, a great skater with excellent puck skills poise and vision. He transports and manages the puck well.

I will come back in one hour with the answer, ok, so let’s play!

Of course this is all IMO.

There was talk lately about Gus regressing, but I think overall he should be fairly productive again. I could see his goal total dipping down to the ~8-10 range down from the 17 he scored this year, but he should pile up a lot of assist again, especially if playing in an offensive role, and taking advantage of his chemistry with Kane. I think it was no fluke that Kane produced best when on the ice with Gus adding the extra element from the blueline offensively.

JC will probably have him #1 or #2 in minutes on the blueline again. I'm not saying he is a superstar, but he should get opportunity to produce and it will benefit the forwards at the top end. It is a contract year for Gus and I think that means he won't be sitting on his haunches or coasting.

His 60 points last season is significant, considering that over the last 10 years, the Hawks have had a dman exceed 50 points only 4 times. (Keith in 2010,2014,2017 and Gus last year)

If you extend it out 2 decades, the only other season that above 50 points was the 52 Campbell got in 2009. I'm not saying Gus doesn't have some issues, but offense from the back end doesn't grow on trees. If he can work on limiting turnovers and playing better in the corner when he has the puck, no reason he can't find a home with the Hawks for the next 3-5 seasons, as he isn't that old.

For all the talk of his bad D, the Hawks 5v5 GAA while he was on the ice was still fairly average, and better thank Manning, Davidson, Jokiharju, Koekkoek, and Dahlstrom. People will look at this xGF% being below 50% and complain about that stat, but that was a trend for the whole team. Gus was one of the better Hawks dmen in that department. The goalies had a Sv% of 92.1% while he was out there, which was pretty much average for the Hawks blueliners.

If Gus demands some huge contract they can't afford, then by all means, they should trade him as he will fetch a decent return. Otherwise, they should lock him up and focus on losing some of of the dmen who were pretty much just as bad in their own zone but also couldn't provide offense.

I need a forward who can win in the dot

I would love if the Hawks could get another C who is consistently in that 52-55% range. Kruger was the second best option last year, but sadly I think wear and tear has done him in.

Indeed they are. Boston is having their way with Carolina in all three zones. This Bruins team is deep and hard to play against if they dispose of Carolina quickly they can rest and heal up and watch SJ & STL beat up on each other and whomever survives that series is going to be in trouble against Boston. Even though I hate Boston I think they may just hoist the Cup in June.

Game 4 in Guelph. Place was going crazy. Nobody believed Ottawa could be beaten but the Storm kept on coming. Great team of kids.

Philly has themselves a real good player in Isaac Ratcliffe. 35th overall pick in 2017. I think he is 6'6 and about 210. Couple of goals today. Entwistle isn't chopped liver either.

I would like you to read this and guess who it was written about:
Put on a virtuoso performance in the blank-blank tourney. “He is dynamic,” said one scout He has really good puck skills and and doesn’t make many mistakes defensively.” He has shown outstanding production through the junior playoffs. Another scout: “He made for today’s game, a great skater with excellent puck skills poise and vision. He transports and manages the puck well.

I will come back in one hour with the answer, ok, so let’s play!
